I'm going to look at an AU2 motor tomorrow. Is there any obvious way of recognising an AU2 motor? It won't have aircon, starter, alternator, or steering pump attached, so maybe from the engine number (where is the engine number by the way)?

If it's a 6. Map sensor under the throttle body should only have 1 bolt for au2.The au1 map sensors are held in with 2.
I don't know what other obvious differences there are. |

also the series 2/3 exhaust manifold heat shield has chunky squares, and the series 1 is smooth with pin holes...also as blueoval as stated you can contact ford dealer with engine number and see what warranty work has been done and when. i did this on a so called low KM AU engine i bought of ebay from a wrecker's in brisbane which was suppose to have 70k but ford told me it had a 90k warranty job done on it a year before i bought it so i kicked up a fuss and got another motor sent to me for free (A LOW K ONE THIS TIME) and kept the first one they sent to me as well lol.......

Oh yeh, the coil packs are different. And the terminals are male on AU1, female on AU2.

I don't know why you guys are so obsessed with a low kay block - I'm pretty sure that you guys wouldn't know the difference between a 10 year old block with 100k on the clock or 200k on the clock.

Mr H, not obsessed but much prefer!
Thanks for that FERG_51. Finally found the number, very hard to see, wouldn't have found it if you hadn't have told me where to look. Its written in a fine dot matrix sort of thing. Had to rub chalk into the dots so that I could read it. Any way its a genuine 137,000. excellent condiiton. Not a speck of corrosion in the thermostat housing or water pump, coolant is perfect, oil is new, genuine ford oil filter, no oil leaks, this motor has been very well looked after. I don't think there's any need to check the engine number with Ford. The first thing I was going to do is change the water pump, while the motor is out, but no need to, its perfect condition. |

While the engine is out I would replace the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, maybe sump gasket if shes leaking, other than that chuck her in there and you'll have a motor that will out live you. |
