Hi All
New to the forum, first post I have a couple of issues with the central locking on my wife's AU II forte wagon. First the drivers door doesn't lock via the remote, however it will lock if I use the key. After some searching and browsing I believe there may be something wrong with the actuator so I intend to pull it out this weekend and have a look. However I have not seen anyone else mention the second problem which is that the car cannot be completely locked, I can lock the car with the key and the 2 front and outside rear door are securely locked, however if I try the nearside rear handle it opens and in the process unlocks all of the other doors. Anyone had this problem and able to give me any idea what is wrong and how to fix it? Any suggestions would be appreciated ![]() |

The plastic worm drive gear inside the actuator will be broken (in the faulty door). Pull it out, and replace or fix the gear. Short term fix to lock that door from the outside is to remove the actuator bar between the door handle and the locking mechanism. Before you do this, though, make sure you undo the child lock so that the door can be opened from the inside handle.

My AU I Forte had exactly the same issue - where the rear drivers side door would not lock. I went through the whole "check the worm drive gear and electric motor" process, however this was not the issue.
The problem: I found that the connection between the locking mechanism and the inside handle is the problem. When the inside handle is used to open the door the handle will return to its original position (so everything looks ok) but the locking mechanism will not. When the locking mechanism is not back in its original position not only will the child lock switch not be able to move but the door will not be able to lock. The easiest way to test for this is to see whether the child lock can be moved up and down. The solution: Dunno... A stronger / thicker gauge wire between the inside handle and the locking mechanism? This will allow the handle to push the locking mechanism back to its original position, hence allowing the door to lock. The dodgy solution: I found the easiest way to solve this was to disconnect the inside handle from the locking mechanism and to tape the child lock switch into the down position. This way the locking mechanism will always return to its original position and hence the door can lock. |

As for the rear door, I really need to be able to open the door as we have 2 children under 2 and I don't want to be forced to unload them via the other side for safety reasons. We have the 6 month old baby in a capsule behind the passenger seat and the other seat for our not quite 2 year old in the middle. Gunner I will look further into your suggestions once I fix the drivers door. |

http://www.fordforums.com.au/vbporta...article&id=320 if you have the same problem as me then the solution will most likely be the same, pull the actuator and repair the gear if it is broken. |

So I got the worm gear repaired and back in today, now the drivers door will lock, but unlock itself after a couple of seconds, I suspect this may be the result of one of the other doors not locking properly (left passenger door is a likely suspect) however after pulling the trim off and removing the hex keys holding that lock in I don't know where to go, it doesnt seem to have an easy method of removal like the fronts do.
Whats the secret to getting the rear door lock out and is there anything I should be looking for here? |
