Hey everyone,
my diff was reco'd by ford in feb, its now whining very bad (no i havent done burnouts) when i got my last service i let ford know and they said it was tyre noise coming from the rear not my diff... now my rear tyres are just on the wear indicator and tonight i changed to steelies (with good tread) and took a mate who's pretty good with cars for a drive. When i go over 60 and take my foot off the throttle it whines, when i apply throttle from stand still it whines. So we both agree it must be my diff whining. Now my mate said there is a LSD additive there ment to put in when they replace it? If they haven't done this, could this be the cause as to why my diff maybe stuffed? Thanks, Tom

wrong diff oil will not automatically cause whining, it will cause increased wear of components, which in cause can lead to whining.
the back off noise at cruise is a classic sign of excess backlash, which means there is too much freeplay between crown and pinion gear. that can be adjusted through shims in the diff itself. continous whining under accel and decel can be caused by diff carrier bearings or wheel bearings in live axels.

Most likely a carrier bearing or wheel bearing. Probably wheel bearing considering the diff was rebuilt in Feb.

Also do you think it would have be making a loud bang noise to do when i apply a fair bit of throttle from take off? Accept that noise appear's to come from the front...

If it clunks when you give it the berries the box may be low on fluid? Does it take ages to slip into gear?

Possibly but if the box is low on fluid it will clunk as it goes into gear and it may be this that is the problem, its difficult to explain, will have a look on sat
