Default Green eyed monster street car?

Has anyone built themselves an Lowndes inspired AU green eyed monster copy?

I only ask as I have just bought a cheap AU XR8 that needs paint and was wondering if there was any out there..

I have to say after only 2 weeks of driving my XR8, I am totally converted from my LTD obsession... No going back now...

Anyone have pics? or ideas?

Pete

It was NT - he was a race mechanic for Lowndesy's team, IIRC. It was done back in the Gibson Motorsport days.

I see a ute as you have described in Craigieburn every now and again... Its a little rough up close, but it certainly stands out.

That looks good (exterior), but it's only a six. And he has spent all that money doing the outside, but still has the cast grey colour of the rocker cover - you'd at least paint that in the same colour scheme wouldn't you?

The sedan laminge is talking about is a monster - power output would rival a V8 supercar. IIRC, the guy's name was Danny (or something like that).

There's a sedan in QLD, I spotted it down at Manly. There's also a Betta BA getting around up here too.

There was one in Townsville, not sure if it is still there as I haven't lived there for a while now. Spot on copy body wise, but I think it was only an XR6

There's a fella in Alice springs who spent a wadload of cash on an AU XR8 a few year back to make it almost identical. He wasn't in the race team.. I think his name was Orr, ran an earthmoving mob up there. Very Nice looking car with the power to boot, but he babied it. (in all honesty I saw it when he just got it and wasn't game to give it a hiding on the old airstrip 1/8th mile track)

Ok, so there are a few scattered around.. Interesting.

Could I get away with just painting the car grey and add the green headlights, or would it need the black graphics as well? Or mabey some black stripes..... hmm, I may have bitten off more than I can chew....

Yeah that was the whole idea. The guy who designed the paint scheme also designed the BA XR series (Nick Hogios I think..) and was done like that to preview the new BA.

Yes it was Nick Hogios.

I have seen an XR sedan out here locally with that paint scheme. Overall the car was originally Liquid Silver with a Silhoutte nose cone from what I remember it to be.

From what I gathered from chatting to the owner of that particular XR one day was that there was another XR sedan which was Silhouette with the Liquid Silver nosecone. This was all swapped over in the early days of determining the final design for Gibson Motorsport.

Thats correct guys. he did a couple of lowndes mock-up cars using base models and TS50 kits. the green eyed monster and the CAT sponsored Falcon of the 00 motorsport days. The CAT car is still on the coast and i see it cruising around from time to time. I havent seen the G.E.M for a while though....not sure if it is still on the coast (or the road for that matter). If someone sees it, let us know.....it will have BPV on the side skirts and rear bar, so easy to distinguish.
Baldy is now doing GT replicas from base model BAs. Though saying that, he did one using a Fairmont, full GT kit including bonnet buldge and added fake exhuast tips on the side skirts and painted it black. was his drive car for a while and the current owner lives in Buderim...its a nice piece of work. his latest one was a blue XT with full GT kit and silver race stripes over the top..looked really nice. and yes....he did add mags to all his builds.

I guess you take the photo of Craig's race car to any decent sticker place, and get them to make them up...or get them airbrushed on.
