Hey! I drive a Commodore and intend on keeping it but being a 5 litre it's a little bit thirsty for the long drive down the highway to work, I also use it for street class drag racing and I'm not fair off making 13 second 1/4 miles but it gives me a bit of drama trying to juggle working on the car to make it faster and also needing it to be running again come Sunday night so i can get to work in the morning.
The point of the story is I need a car to get to work cheap and that wont break much but I still need a little bit of power to be able to pass the odd B double and tractor, well ok maybe I'll retire from passing B doubles and I think it's going to be a Falcon on lpg. Then I can leave the VP in the shed and take my time on spanner work I need to do on that. I drive a AU a bit at the moment but it's really the only model I've driven and it seems quite good really, I don't care that it's a fairly slow car in comparasion to my VP because it's still fast enough to pass a tractor fairly safely and that's all I need and it handles pretty good. So I wanted some advice about what other options I have and how they compare to the AU or should I just go and buy a AU and be done with it ? |

My aunt drives a gassed VX commodore. It's been very reliable and has decent punch for a 3.8L V6 LPG. That being said, an AU should be just as good.
Btw, I've seen a few of your drag racing vids on youtube . |

I'ld personally look at EL's and series 2 & 3 AU's. Aswell as 5spd if possible.

My personal thought is get a Corolla if all you need is a set of work wheels they're indestructable and still have enouh to get the job done : My Corolla's got 203ks the AU 133ks and the Corollas 10 years older and it will probably still outlast my AU. :
Depends on how much driving your doing though I guess if its a lot of highway stuff prolly AU be careful though the AU Virus is very contagious and once infected is very hard to get rid of. |

Since you said you do a fair bit of hwy driving I'd say stick to the large cars, a lot easier to drive long distances in. I'd go either an AU or BA on gas.

AU or late E-series on gas ;)
Cheap yet not too long in the tooth. BA's are still a tad pricey to be considered as a "cheap" work car in my opinion. |
