I was looking on the Today Tonite website about the fire in the Jeep. While reading the story I noticed a little quote referring to Ford and Toyota. I am guessing that they mean Ford globally and as well as Toyota Globally as well.
They mentioned that Jeep Chrysler was not alone with recalls (not so shocking) but interestingly they claimed that Ford and Toyota recalled over a million cars last year! In Australia even Honda got its arsed kicked! Why do Toyota have such a strangle hold on the market? Why do they have such a good reputation with quality? Everybody has a good story to tell about a ten year old Toyota, but I know that there are plenty of good stories about ten year old Falcons and Commodores and Mazda's etc. The VT is ten and the Au is nearly ten years old now and there are plenty of good stories around with satisfied customers in both these cars never alone any other brand. I know of a particular 96 VS Commodore Exec that has been around Australia twice and now has 320,000 kays on it and has never had a single failure. The car is loved by its owner and is serviced by the book, and has been since new. Anyway here is the comment. Of course, recalls are not limited to Daimler Chrysler. Ford and Toyota also recalled more than a million cars each last year. In Australia, Daimler Chrysler and Honda had the most recalls to fix problems in 2006, ranging from oil leaks and loss of steering to potential fires. But during our investigation, we discovered some unusual claims about Jeeps in general. "It's our most complained about brand," Alborz Fallah of the website www.caradvice.com.au said. He claimed he received more complaints about Jeeps than any other make, but the complaints did not stay on the website for long. "From what our readers tell us, once Jeep finally actually agree to fix the car, they tell the customer they have to contact us and get us to remove the complaint as part of the deal to actually fix the car," Mr Fallah said. |

Most of Toyota's recalls have been some preventative that the end customer can't see, understand or could care about.
For instance, I know Toyota recently had a recall on landcruisers for a brake shoe issue - fairly major issue, but not one that the customer can actually see or percieve. Toyota have a look, replace a part if they need to and send the car on it's merry way. Meanwhile, some of the generic history of Falcons and Commodores over the last ten years leaves a slightly different view: Ford's breaking diffs, Holdens blowing power steering pumps, electrical issues, shoddy dash components, faulty gearboxes, rust etc are all items that the end customer can see and do care about. |

That story was the biggest load of BS I have ever seen they didnt know what caused the fire according the insurance company and Jeep had a possible suggestion but Today Tonight disagreed and was trying to blame Jeep for an aftermarket part that was not made by jeep and was fitted by the Dealer. In the end they said we dont know what caused this but Jeep should do something before they kill someone. Talk about playing the blame game

I remeber when current affairs television was exactly that - current affairs. We are in the the lead up to the closest federal election in the last 8 years yet weight loss stories, dancing with the stars bio's and 'neighbours from hell' are all we see on TT and a curent affair.
I watched Rudd vs Kerry O'Brien on the 7.30 report the other night and remembered when Jana Wendt, Mike Willisee and Ray Martin actually used to do interviews with people in the studio that made for great television and made you think. I saw this story....so much innuendo and scare mongering from a snippet of footage of a vehicle on fire. I just loved te fact that in the letter from Chrysler it refered to the unbonnet fire as a 'Thermal Event'....that made me laugh |

apparently chrysler and jeep have a 48percent recall rate for warranty jobs. this was taken from a guy who used to work for them till about 3 weeks ago.
And apparently Ford have a 14% warrantly recall rate..

I think its save to say that every car that is build had some stage been recall with every car company if we had a prefect think alot of people would be out of the job.
Thou i found it weird how every clip with this story didnt show how did it happen at all how the sudden fire started in the car |
