Fascinating place. Been there twice. Loved it. Take the job! What an experience! Different from any other U.S city. So many places to visit from there. Up or down the west coast.

Mate I am seriously Happy in Brisbane at the moment, however like everything its something that has to be explored. There are things I love about Brisbane, and things I miss about Melbourne, I guess I will have a look at what is totally put on the table run the sums and work out what I lose vs.what I could gain....

Life is about educated Risks, some people take them others dont, I guess time will tell....

Worked over there for 3 months with the wife back in 2001. We worked in the Sonoma Valley region which is about an hour and a half north of San Fran. We absolutely loved it.

San Fran is a great city to see. Nice and quaint and hilly. You can walk around most of it like we did one day. We were absolutely stuffed at the end of the day due to climbing all the hills.
Public transport is great and easy to get around on. The bus drivers are mad drivers though. Make sure you hang on for dear life if you have to stand.
Driving through the city wasn't too bad. We didn't really have too many troubles, but we mainly avoided rush hour though.

Gotta pay tolls to go over the bridges, but I think that is just heading in to the city. Heading out is free. Plenty of things to see and do north along highway one along the coast. Head south along highway one also, plenty of beautiful spots there as well.

We found one shop in San Fran that sells Cooper's beer! Down by Fisherman's wharf, on the way to Hooters.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I can see if I can answer some of them for you.

Oh, and allow plenty of time to get your visa's from the consulate. We got stuffed around a bit and my wife didn't get her visa until the morning before we were due to fly out. There was no guarantee that we'd get it that day, but thankfully we did.
Things have changed since we went and are probably a lot worse now.

I've been there and had a job offer 8 years ago. I never took it up and I regret that.... I love my life now but I just wish I had taken it up and tried it out as I had already lived in another part of the US and loved it.

Go for it, if you don't like it you can always come back.

When you are working in a big shed filled full of barrels of wine stacked about 8 high containing about 300L each like we did, you worry about earthquakes. :voldar02:

I took the plunge into the unknown 7 years ago by coming over here and have never looked back. It an experience worth while and all i can say is do it if you have the chance, its a once a lifetime opportunity!
I'd do it again if it is offered to me ...

Nothing ventured, nothing gained mate! If you're unattached then go for it IMO. You'd need a pretty good reason (wife, kids, health etc) to stay.

Australia isnt going anywhere mate, it'll still be here just like you know it today

Definitely go there. Very beautiful part of the US. Don't just stay in San Fran either. Head north and south from there, plenty of things to see and lots of beautiful countryside as well.
We drove down highway one from San Fransisco to Los Angeles when we were there, stopping at Santa Maria (think Michael Jackson cout case) overnight. One of the best coastlines you'll ever see!

hehe actually it does ...

used to help my old man back in the old days, he is in logistics and used to develop logistics plans for development, production and distribution and used SAP in all his projects.

I am kinda disappointed that i never took the chance of venturing further into that area. Became an It clown for nearly 10 years and now doing ECU stuff ..

and back on topic ... DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!
