Default AFF Tribute to Steve Irwin

This thread was inspired by Buckies new avatar, a picture of Steve Irwin. when I saw it, I was touched as I have been really shocked and saddened by Steve's death. Not to mention how my 6yo has taken his death. to add to that Christian is in his first concert Tomorrow night and he is dressed as a Stingray. Christian is not happy about that, at all.

Anyway I am proposing a tribute to Steve by getting everyone to change there avatar to a picture of Steve for 1 week.. Feel free to use the same picture I have or Buckies or do a search and grab your own pic of the Crock Hunter........

So how do you all feel about doing that....

Jabba

Great Idea Jabba. Lets get more pics of Steve in our Avatars and some different ones as well. Make sure you post up here in this thread.

On MSN people are putting (tu) at their end of their names as a mark of respect. Having these avatar's could be our tribute.

Guys I applaude your sentiment...but I wont be changing my avatar....for the following reasons:
1.there is talk of a state funeral for him....this I disagree with. There are certain codes and protocols for this and IMO he (sorry) falls outside of these.

2. there is also talk of naming a national park after him this I like.
3. there is also talk of a monument for him..this (sorry) I disagree with.

just my two bobs worth.

There are so many people touched by Steve in some way that I think state funeral is fitting. I also think the national park is a must. And a monument well there is monument of Wally Lewis (and I like Wally) so why not one of Steve.

And yes Jabba I will be changing my avatar. Just make sure that Christian knows that Steve would certainly not be blaming the sting ray.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Steve was a true Aussie who did more for this country and the people who live in it than most average people could ever dream of doing in a millennium. I wish his wife and two children all the strength and love that can surround them to help them grow up to be as proud as we all are of our Wildlife Warrior.

I hope he gets a state funeral, Steve contributed more to this country than the vast majority of politicians and deserves to be honoured for the passion and energy he shared with millions of people around the world.

yep,

I already had a pic of him on my MSN!

dunno why I was so attached to him, i didnt know him personally although i was lucky enough to see him at the opening of the Crocaseium (spelling) at his Australia Zoo a few years back, was a great day and he certainly made it fun for everyone (big and small).

I also have enjoyed watching his TV shows!

I'm assuming you are young....(here I go once again to incur the wroth of team) There are certain protocols to which we as a democratic society adhere to when it comes to matters of state.

Would you expect someone who has done absolutely nothing in their life other than care and nuture their family to be given a state funeral...no.

Would you expect every soldier who has gone to war to defend this country to be given a state funeral... no.

Would you expect yourself to be given a state funeral because you you did the right thing all your life ...no.

Yes Steve Irwin did a lot for conservation and the animal world does it deserve a state funeral...well if it does then the likes of D.Bellamy...D. Attenbruogh ..Suzuki...et al would also deserve one and from there where would it stop.

I would suggest you research the protocols of state funerals.

A man has died and that is a very sad thing, but MO has an opinion which in no way disrespects that, and he is entitled to it....
