Well its official.......
Channel 9 and Skaifey / Deborah Hutton have joined forces to bring us a mega buck documentary on the new Dunnydore. "Billion dollar baby" This Saturday at 4.00 PM you can see the whole kit and kaboodle unfold before your eyes in a special documentary detailing the whole VE project and a glimpse into where GM are headed in the near future. Marketing genius or media insanity............You decide.

I say marketing genius, in my opinion Holden is always one step ahead of Ford in the marketing stakes. Like look at the last Focus add in car magazines, with a German ironing turf??? Like come on Ford pick up your game!

This week's edition of "Wheels" covers the VE in overkill mode. About 500 pages were dedicated to the damn car.
Wish the Falcon had that coverage. Pity Ford doesn't pack Wheel's pockets full of cash. Maybe they'd get 1/10 of the prase and review opportunities. The fickle world of the media. When will they die? |

Marketing genius, while Fords marketing has improved it still is nothing compared to Holden. Even people who are not interested in cars but are looking to buy one will watch it.

Media Coverage = Sales
Holden and Ford have been doing it for ages. Im sure this program will be nothing special.

yeah I saw that too.
It is a smart move, but I think the media will get behind it, not only for holdens sake, but for the car industry in general. What will make me puke is when they start claiming the "Australianess" of it all. I dont want to watch it because they will crap on forever, but its not often something car related (development wise) is on TV.

Marketing Genius. It's like a form of propaganda - most of the Australian public will believe everything and anything they see/hear. If that's the only way they can stay ahead.......

When I saw the HOLDEN blimp when i was Oran Park for the V8Supercars I thought, "Ahh, good one Holden. What next, a TV show on the new Commodore". And here it is. Nice work Holden, you've done well.
They always seem to end up on top of Ford...........................other than the new HSV. Edit: I'll be watching it too.

Very clever marketing indeed.
If Ford run a similar campaign they will also achieve results. This type of marketing to the General Public will instill in people what ever the message Holden are trying to get into the general public about this model. They have spent $1 Billion on the car. 1 hour of TV will help sales along I think. How many times have you seen an add, no matter how annoying that it sticks in your mind. For the people that watch this Doco, a similar picture will be planted in their minds and they will want to go an check out the car in the showrooms. This is when the salesman will have his/her chance to further campaign the vehicle. Nice one Holden. Only hope that Ford learn from this and do a similar yet more effective campaign. This may open the flood gates for companies to do similar docos. Only time will tell. That's my 2 cents _2:

The Holden propaganda machine rolls on. I wonder if they can explain spending a billion dollars on a car that can barely beat a nine year old platform in a comparo in yesterdays Herald Sun.

Oh, hang on... SBS are running the TEST PATTERN at the same time! Oh, happy days! That's much more appealing that a one-hour long advert for the Commonwhore hosted by a has-been loser girl AND Deborah Hutton.
