Default Parking and brick walls

Well at1425 this afternoon I got a call from the other half to say she had hit a brick wall while parking the XR8 at work.

After making sure she was ok,I asked about the XR,"oh it's not to bad just popped one of the headlight protectors out of its mountings and a few scratches".

A phone call a few hours later to see if I should drive the 80ks to see for myself and now the front bar and a winglet appear to be split and the undertray is hanging down.

I wont get to see it till tomorrow afternoon and I'm dreading what I am going to see. :

Sorry to hear that John. I hope the damage isn’t too bad, I’m sure the other half would be feeling pretty lousy right now. All the best.

Cheers, Danny

I've thought of inventing something like, spontaneous wall relocation... would explain a few dents from my missus!

So sorry to hear about it.
Try to get past it and a word of advice for the future of your relationship.
Do not bring it up every time there is an argument, Cars can be fixed. Glad to see the attiude you have displayed so far though. As a matter of fact, don't even go to look at it. contact your insurance and let them do thier job, just pay the excess, (sorry to say, you'll have a tough time getting a brick wall to admit fault)
Have a great Easter!
don't dwell on it.

Thats not too good mate :( but your not the only one :/ On teusday i put mine through a window...dont ask me how, was parking it foot slipped onto the accelerator and whamo straight through the window.

Put a dint in the bonnet (tiny), and scratched up all the front. Not too bad but not too good either :( Dunno wether to replace the front spoiler or get it repaired as there is some fibreglass sticking out and stuff.

I might post some pics

Yaw,appreciate what you're saying,am way past recriminations in arguements.

Am very pleased/happy to say the only thing that matters is that my other half is ok. After all its just a car, they can be fixed replaced,my other half cannot.

Sorry to hear about it mate, but glad to read you've got such a good attitude about it, sh!t happens, hopefully the damage isn't too bad, but it could have been so much worse, as is illustrated in the thread Wulos started - http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=6097 - important thing is that she is ok, and whatever damage there is, could have been a lot worse, at least what there is will be repairable.

Ok,quick update, car and other half are home.
Checked out the damage,it would appear at this stage it is not as bad as I dreaded.

The damage,on a quick look: nose, mounting brackets broken, deep gouges and slightly warped, behind nose square tube support bar bent.
Now if this does'nt beat all where the number plate is mounted which is recessed, the paint has been scratched off.

The recess is about 10/15mm,which means the leading edge of the nose compressed enough to allow the plate to contact the wall.

I've probably missed more but will take it to the local panel beater and get a quote.

With the headlight protector it actually broke the mounting bracket in half where the screw goes in.

Anyway I reckon between 1 to 2k for repairs. The other half is alright just upset about pranging her car and is calming down with a Bex,hot cup of tea and a good lie down.

Hate to say it but its a known fact that chicks dont have the spatial awareness men have.

Never let chicks or my mates drive my car

My mates GF and some of my chick friends wanted to drive my car. Cause they are not so car minded i managed to convince them they needed to know how to double clutch to drive my car (LMFAO you dont need to but it was the only thing i could come up with at the time) so they bought it and moved on. Anyways it came up in a convo one day and one of the girls said "if i learn how to double clutch, mitch will let me drive his car" My mates and I almost ****ed ourselves it was soo funny.

Do you reckon i could convince them that you need a clutch to drive an auto lol?

These chicks do have something in relation with cars though- Nice curves lol and a sexy ****.

Geez $3k to get fixed for that. Dang id sue the brick wall lol. It moved when i parked lol

Hope it all goes smoothly for ya

The insurance mob wanted the nose/ bumper plastic welded but panel shop convinced them a new one was the only way ($1,472.00).
We have to pay for the little winglets underneath ourselves as insurer said were damaged before the wall jumped out.($50.00)
Bit stingy I reckon but at least it gets everything else new.

With nose apparently if it can be repaired it is sent away to a plastic specialist and fixed, then if it does'nt go back on car is sold as a second hand item.
I asked if I could have the old bits, thought about putting them on the ute or hanging in workshop. Thats when the panel shop told me about repair bit and apparently insurer checks.
