Default so what defines non-automotive related chat in a automotive forum?

i just thought it is bizarre how some threads which are "non automotive related" are shutdown for being "non automotive related" in a "non automotive related" section of a forum

I guess it all depends on the mood of the said moderator. I can see how some posts/threads are really pathetic but the actions of some moderators on here dealing with these posts is just as pathetic.

I'm curious why everyone is making a fuss about this now? Off topic forums are pretty commonplace.

I think the problem lies with this place being a Ford Forum, while some members use it as 1% Ford related talk and 99% IRC type chat that can be a waste of bandwidth.

There is a growing intolerance for some utter crap that's getting posted. Off topic and drivel are different things.

I think its good to have an off the topic section even tho its a ford forum, the thing that all the people have in common is that we love fords so why can we not have discussions about all topics so long as we maintain respect and post in the right section i dont think it should be a problem........

no offence Jeff but maybe some of the mods could deal with the drivel (there is a damn lot of it) instead of contributing to it with pointless teapot posts and other such crap.

Look it just boils down to the fact that first and foremost it is a FORD forum. Yes The Bar is a bit of a getaway from the car chat and yes i agree that is a good thing but when The Bar is the most active forum on the site and with some of the things being posted in here raising more than few eyebrows you really do need to sit down and think about its place on the site.

I dont think any of the mod/admin team are suggesting that The Bar be canned entirely but there really does need to be some cleaning up going on and users (not mentioning any names) need to think before they post.

I'd been unsure about this subject also, until XA Coupe made this qoute. As simple as it seems, that actually cleared a lot of my queries up.

This qoute should answer anyone's questions, really. Thank Christ I made it into the acceptable list.

I don't agree will all your determinations, but it is good to see someone is at least giving it a thought. The bar doesn't have to be humourless, far from it, but it could really benefit from a bit less of "what is your favorite/worst song" that is real Golden Teapot material.

I think the jokes are always a good idea. I think though that if there is already a joke thread posted in the last day or so, any new jokes should be added to that rather than having half a dozen joke threads on the first page.

In the end we all have varied opinions on what should be in here. The joy of living in a democracy. If I read something and think little I pay it little heed. If I am interested I reply etc. And if something is entirely inappropriate I am sure our prudent moderators will fix it up. We can only hope they are impartial and act with the forums interest at heart and not their own. :voldar02:

Trust me josh - you dont want to get into this discussion, lol.

EA-Bender - i think you'll find the teapot rubbish is indeed a subtle method of communicating the matter in a non abrasive fashion. The difference between non automotive chat and drivel appears to be very subjective and with little/no further guidance being provided on the matter.

In that regard I would echo the sentiments of Redrum.

at the end of the day, we are drawn together with a common love for the blue oval, but it doesnt mean we have limit conversation to the blue oval only.

we all come from a wide variety of locations and ages, and just because one demographic doesnt agree with another doesnt mean that someone is wrong. we're all entitled to our opinions as to what is drivel and what is not.
