Urgent peoples!
Here's part of her assignment, and the ones I've thought of so far have not been "good enough" for Ms Teachers' Pet of the Year... lol. "Name three inventions which appear to be having a negative effect on the environment (eg plastic bags). Were these effects forseeable at the time of discovery? What precautions could inventors and manufacturers take before producing a new product?" Cars are one suggestion that fits the category above... Any ideas???

Like Uranium... wasn't it Einstein that split the atom, which led to the development of an atom bomb, which in turn was used... and devastated people and their environments? Lead was used in our coins, paints and in the fuels of our cars... thanks Adrian, I already got cars. :P I said DDT because that was an insecticide used to eradicate the little buggers eating the crops... but the devastation ensued, including to people, was awful. CFCs are one I suggested - hole in the ozone layer, although the hydroflurocarbons now used instead still affect the environment. Use roll-ons. Argh! Annoying!

This might seem silly, but the home computer. Seems harmless enough, until it is declaired too "old" or "slow", and then the disposal of it isn't exactly good for the enviroment, and it's something most people wouldn't think of. I mean, what do many people do? Just throw it in with the household rubbish. But have a good look at a complete computer system, do some research on what the circuitry is made from, etc.
Just a suggestion, and one I'm sure most people wouldn't think of

So, he buys it for $3.20. Takes it home........ Eventually, the local council has made $300 from the same computer that doesnt work and it still actually hasn't been buried. As much as this is vaguely true, I am only joking and do agree with you. Also agree that the GEN3 was a horrid invention. :MrT_anim:

Steam Engine is by far the most damaging invention to impact the environment. Without it there would have been no Industrial Revolution, and we wouldnt have any of technology and many of the products we have today.

And without the industrial revolution we could all dress in jute fibre, live in caves or trees and never have to worry if we've paid our mobile phone bills, most probably because we had perished of plague before we were 23.

Well sour, you've either got the plauge or nuclear holocaust. I'd prefer the latter, better fireworks.

This site has a lot to do with nuclear elctricity. It goes into greenhouse effects, health effects and radiation and genetic effects. It's a fair read, but quit informative. Well i believe. It is also, "Note: All material here remains Copyright Uranium Information Centre Ltd" so its not just someone writing whatever they think is correct. I hope this helps you out with your dilemma.
