Default ignition timing?

i just put a new dizzy in my car eb 4.0l and i just about to time the car,do i have to set the cars ecu into some sort of learning mode or not?

and what would happen if i just put the dizzy in and try to time it without the computer in the learning mode?

self test mode is used for setting base timing. In this mode timing is set at 10deg BTDC. Bridge the left most pins on your self test connector (top left and bottom left) then set timing.

so what would happen if i pulled my old dizzy out and just swaped them and tryed to time it with out puting it this self test mode?

so is it just 2 pins i bridge?
