Default What do you do when your sleeping pattern is out?

Well, it's 2:10am on a Wednesday, October 26th 06! - I've noticed that I havn't gone to bed (which I should have gone around 4 hours ago!), What would you do?

Sleep - And try and wake up at say... 8AM (with in mind, that you might sleep all the way through without hearing the alarm!)

Drink alot of coffee and try ride it through....

Try and keep myself busy......

Other?

I havn't been to sleep in exactly 24HRS - i'm feel'n really tired and forgetting how to spell really easy words (gotta love dictionary.com :P) - I tend to go to bed when I feel tired.... well I didn't feel tired until an hour ago....

Let us know what ya's would do =)

I work nights and have always worked wierd hours 2/3 jobs so I don't really have a real sleep pattern,just sleep when I"m tired but I find turning on the tele usually sends me off if I can"t sleep in bed. Sleep is overated,you can sleep when you are dead and you are dead a long time.

I am with you, don't even know what sleep patterns are! Which reminds me, I think I might go to bed because it is nearly the middle of the night for me (night shift last night)

Goodnight everyone (yawn)

It's vital that we all get a good night's sleep. The benefits are quite amazing and the medical/science community are noticing a direct link between good quality sleep and healing of disease/illness.

Not getting enough sleep or having erratic sleep patterns can deplete your immune system, you can age quicker, and your stress levels/blood pressure can rise. Shift workers are the ones who suffer the most.

The best thing you can do is try and ease yourself into a regular sleeping routine. Work out how much sleep seems to make you feel at your best and try to stick to it. Sometimes keeping a diary of your sleeping habits for a month or two can show you amazing things. The essential oil Roman Chamomile is the one that will make you ever so sleepy. Lavender helps too but tends to be a bit of a "girlie" smell lol, but chamomile is the one that gets to even the most stoic insomniac. All you do is sprinkle two or three drops on your pillow at night and lay down on it.

Also you can drink chamomile tea at night and try and incorporate a bedtime routine such as a shower/bath, organisation of clothes/lunch for the next day, tying up loose ends (all those things you plan to do the following day because you didn't get them done that day can keep you awake at night), reading/quiet time, a warm drink, and a nice warm clean bed.

Ensure you have good curtaining to keep out moonlight/early sunlight, and that your alarm is in good condition so you don't fret about not waking up because the alarm didn't go off again and it made you late for work.

Those little things that are going round in your head... write them down on a to-do list for the next day and promise yourself you'll at least cross one off the list each day

Who needs bad sleep for high blood pressure and stress. I get that daily from here.

Chamomile and lavender to help me sleep..... sure I cant just headbutt the ground a few times? Puts me to sleep like a baby.

I already have a bedtime routine. Porn until 11. Masturbation till 12. Then I wait for the chest pains to subside, and pass out in the cooridor on the way to bed.

I suggest sleeping in a coffin thats lined with subwoofers as alarms.

1. Run over native fauna
2. Poison the environment with car running rich
3. insert a seagull into a plastic bag and throw it into the path of a whale

its going to be a busy week.

4 years working at a job which I was working between 20 and 30 weeks a year on call 24/7. You learn to be able to sleep anywhere, anytime on demand. You also begin to find out more reliably how to determine when your body requires sleep

This following scenario happened more than once:

* Worked all day Monday, 8:30 - 6pm
* Get home 7pm
* Have dinner
* Paged out at 8:30pm
* Worked until Tuesday 6am
* Drive to work to hand over
* Had three coffees by Tuesday 9am
* By 10am you are exhausted, and walking around aimlessly
* Well and truly too tired to drive
* taxi home
* fall asleep in the taxi
* get telephone calls all day from management asking for information about what you did last night - over and over again.
* Turn off phone
* Sleep until 6pm
* Dinner 7pm
* Paged out 9pm

Rinse repeat.

Ahhh the joys of working in the IT industry.

Pfft, 4 kids under the age of 9 and an addiction to coffee and smokes... what the f*** is a sleeping pattern? :

(and no, I dont want a herbal remedy, I like meat and if I dont get smokes and coffee I will not be responsible for my actions).

Oh, and if you think thats bad, take a moment to think of Mrs Casper... she deals with the kids a lot more than I do.

See I used to think that was normal. Then I got a different job at a different company. Now instead of doing 1 week on, 1 week off for oncall - i'm now 1 week on, 5 weeks off. Call outs are maybe 2 a week and it is usually a telephone call only.

Also base pay rates are up - I'm now on nearly double the base of my previous job, and even working one year with 27 weeks oncall, and base pay, doesn't match my base at my new job.

Last fortnight I got a pay cheque for $6100 pre tax. $6100 a fortnight! That was me not submitting an weeks oncall charges in on time and getting two paid in one fortnight - so it is far from normal. But GEEZ! :party3:

Seriously, if you have the skills, go looking for jobs on it.seek.com.au and take your pick, there are good jobs to be had (and some shockers no doubt too).

Yeah, during a huge trial last year, I didn't leave the office between 4pm on a Sunday and 10am on Tuesday.* You find a way. You'll actually reach a stage where you don't feel like sleeping any more. When I got home on that Tuesday, I hopped straight online and stuffed around for hours before I unwound enough to sleep. I was back at work on Wednesday.

*Actually, that's a damn lie - I bought smokes and chocolate milks and pies and more coffee coffee coffee coffee smokes coffee coffee coffee smokes coffee at the 7-11 down George St a few times.

Might have to get your HR details sounds like a good place to work. look on seek but always say I will only change to be closer to home as that is my biggest pain working in the CBD

Apparently we have 25 hour body clocks... so every few weeks we'll have a crappy bad-sleeping period.

And due to this 25 hour thingy, some people claim that we originate from Mars, due to Mars' 25 hour days. I call BS, but found it interesting nonetheless.

this is a very serious topic . i have been a shift worker for 15 years (rotating) my sleeping is getting worse lately and so is my blood pressure .so much so that i have a box of blood pressure pills here that i got from the doctor today .i'm not on medication but i have a machine and i notice that my blood pressure is normal after i wake up and through the day however the 3 to 4 hours before i go to bed it rises the bottom reading to over 90 which is the medication benchmark . so i am reluctant at this stage to take medication , but horid about my sleep or lack of. it is definately sleep related . i am dedicated to fixing this problem without medication as have done before and unfortunately for me i have to run and work out for 1 hour per day and eat 2 to 3 meals without snacking in between to keep it undeer control . something that i havent been doing for 5 months due to my hernia op which knocked me around for 3 mths and then the stress of 2 car accidents . and more which i wont talk about lets just say you do things you never thought you would do when you are under stress. but anyhow i think from my research on the net that we are all in trouble those of us who have irregular sleeping and lack exercise .

If I need to get my sleeping pattern into shape (sleeping at night, awake during the day), I'll stay up for the whole night/next day, then go to bed earlyish (8:30-9:30pm) the next night, and its all fixed. Works well enough for me... *shrugs*

the way i get my sleeping pattern back is to try to stay awake for as long as possible each night/morning/day then loop it back into place. it was easy for a while when i quit me job (which i'm now back at(don't know how it happend)) for a while i was sleeping all day then waking up at 6 00pm. it takes a couple of days but i find my 'looping' works.
