Default Help! I enjoy a smoke

Bit of a funny one, figure the topics alright seeing we're in the bar! I know it's bad for me, but I kinda enjoy a smoke, but I don't seem to have any addiction. Don't want one, wouldn't be easy to give up - question is, when you started smoking, how long did it take for you to get addicted?

I can go through almost a pack in a night or two when drinking, but then go through the rest of the week like a non smoker - no cravings, nothing. Yeah it stinks, but you always end up stinking after a night out in a club or pub. Just enjoy the relaxing sensation, really shouldn't I know.

What's my poison - normally 12s, Marlboro reds, B&Hs. Don't enjoy smoking lighter stuff, feels like nothing - some mates just reckon you end up smoking more cigs. Prolly should try a brand that's bloody horrible, prolly won't wanna tough another cig! Any tips

Next time you're out at the pub drinking and smoking and whatnot, try this:

Take in a big breath, hold as much smoke as you can in your mouth, then walk up to the biggest, nastiest looking bloke you can find and blow it in his face and call him a 'sh1t-faced c0ck-master'.

That should help you give up, I think.

I don't know, I've never smoked.

I never used to be addicted either. In fact I always said to my mate I would never get addicted. Well let's just say thats probably the first thing he has been right about. You just gradually get addicted.

when i started smoking, grade 5, i could go weeks/months without a smoke, quit 4 a year, then got to high school and started up again, 2 weeks later i couldnt last an hour without a smoke, much the same now, if you want to smoke and enjoy the taste try weed, its not as addictive + it gets u high, go the b&h special filter ;)

Sounds a lot like me... I wouldn't worry - there are worse things to be addicted to.

But croikey, 12's! I haven't smoked a Red since high school - doubt I could do it these days!

im 20 now
been smokin a pack a day since 15-16
started off not noticing any physical addiction but that didn't last long
been smokin weed daily for nearly as long
i can't stop weed while smoking cigs and i can't stop smokin cig if im drinkin beer..which i do alot when tyrin to stop weed...lol its a vicious cycle

I smoke (cigarettes), from time to time, but can always stop it from becoming a habit. When living with my ex I was beginning to smoke a fair bit (regularly) coz I'd have one with her, but I then went cold turkey.

Every now & then I'll have a craving come from no-where for a single cigarette, and I don't really understand where this comes from because later in the day I might be offered one & I'll go "no thanks" coz I don't actually feel like one by the time I'm offered one!

I'd say a good way of getting put off cigarettes would be so smoke a packet of Holiday 50s (any strength) in one day. And don't touch any grog while doing so :P You will feel very seedy, and have one nasty nicotine hangover that night/the next day!

The other option is cold turkey, which might come surprisingly easy to you.

Seriously, if I have anything lighter it feels like nothing - what are Lights, 8s? bout the only light cigarette I thought wasn't bad was Mild Sevens, damn smooth with their charcoal filters.

im the same.. i smoked ~10 a day at one point because my missus did but gave up when i git the new car..
cold turkey was no probs. may have a drag of hers once a day but not from addiction. she get touchy because its my old mans house so it makes her comfortable.
give cold turkey a go if your real keen.
she only smokes 4's so i couldn;t imagine smokin a pack o 12's in a night.

I was exactly the same, out with friends and would have a couple but could then go a month or so without one, but as soon as I went through a major crisis (marriage breakdown) the first thing I felt like was a smoke. Within a week I was smoking a couple of packs a week. Lasted for 3 months, then went cold turkey and haven't touched one since. The thought of it makes me feel sick.

PS. Honer you're right, when you wake up, make your coffee and reach for your packet, you know your addicted.

I'm not a smoker! - but had a few here and there when I was about 16....

Got alotta monnah now! - was on the news a few years ago, that a couple gave smoking up and put the saving towards a savings account and ended up saving thousands..... and thousands of dosh!

Im not a smoker and never will be. Havnt even tried one. They are a waste of money and they destroy your health. Ive had a very close family member die from smoking, it was horrible. Im always onto everyone I know about it.

They just arnt worth that like bit of whatever they do because in the long run they will kill you and waste your money. Its something like $10 a pack and for a pack a day smoker thats $70 that could be spent on something better.

I have been lucky in that none of my mates smoke, so ive never been pressured to try one.

I started smoking causally whilst drinking when I was about 18 and I only ever smoked on weekends or when we were partying. Then one day I had a bad day at work so had a couple of smokes and then I just sorta felt like one every now and then so I would always have a pack handy - then all of a sudden I realised I was going through 4 or 5 packs a week. B&H – turn to gold (for those of us who remember cigarette advertising) - was my brand of choice.

Being asthmatic and smoking was a terribly bad combination and after several years it became apparent that I would either have to give up breathing or smoking. I decided the smoking would have to go which was a tough decision because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would never take it up again though.

Yeah I've been doing the same thing since I was 18 (almost 22). But I have never had a craving. No matter how bad my day is I've never had a need to spark up. When I have a few drinks and I get offered one (or ten), than I'll smoke.

I've never smoked and never will. It absolutely stinks, and it kills you. People have offered me cigarettes and every time I have refused. From what I've heard, a way to quit is to weave a horse's hair into a cigarette. One puff, and you'll be rolling on the ground, trying to breath.

Used to only smoke when I drank on the weekends. Then in Yr 12 I only had 4 classes thus a lot of time off. My mates and I would then have some beers after school, therefore smoking a lot. Gradually you end up smoking more and more and then your screwed lol.

there are 2 ways to give up smoking 1. have a health scare or 2. cold turkey.

im stupid ,i smoke about 10-15 a day and my family has a history of heart disease,dad and both his brothers have had about 13 bye-passes(13 cloged veins replaced) between them and yet i still smoke.
my old man used to smoke about 100 cigy's a day when we lived in singapore but one day decided to give up cold turkey after sitting at his desk all day smoking he gets up to walk away and passed out,most of his blood was in his legs,from that day on he has never touched a smoke.

or try and replace your habit with gummy bears or chewy,im trying that at the moment,im using gum and each time i feel the need i have a piece,but if you get frustrated easy like i did sat playing golf,you might end up with a mouthfull of gum real quick.

Well i agree, I'd have to say wanting to do it for yourself is the only way to get cold turkey to work though. Learn what it does to your body, and you wont touch another one :

If you've got kids, they'll appreciate it when they're older. I've quit for a while now, and i dont get cravings at all any more.

If you "enjoy a smoke" i'd say you've been drawn in! Keep it up and you'll be struggling to do anything without bringing your packet of B&H (or whatever) with you.

honer hit it on the head earlier. The morning smoke is your indicator, that was the hardest part to give up too for me.

id like to think im not addicted but i am >_<" even if im out ill go 'dont buy another deck' then later ill go buy another -.="

only thing stopping me from having one every few hrs or so is my parents; so i only through about 3-4 a day =/

I HAD A NIEHBOUR WHO SAID HE WASN'T ADDICTED TO SMOKING caught him with his head down a chimney one night because he had run out of money. hahahaha just a joke.me myself actually tried to get addicted when i was 13. ended up vomiting a few times and gave it away . so my attempts actually didn't work .
on another note, i only wish i never found my dads porno mags when i was 13.hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. cough cough.

I never thought i was addicted, and still dont think i am i actually quit for my boyfriend but he didnt smoke. Every time we went out and my friends were smoking around me i would find myself craving one and sneaking drags every now and then.

I think if you are not addicted you will only have the occasional one when people around you are, but you know if your addicted when you need that one ciggy first thing in the morning.

I think the best way to quit is try not to be around it. The whole out of sight out of mind thing.

Or better yet - Monkey see monkey do.

I'm in this boat. Never had a craving in the morning.

Dunno, maybe I'm just semi resistant to nicotine, prolly why I like 12s. Noone's here on 16s are they!

if your properly addicted cold turkey won't work.....u battlin mental and physical addictions.....go patches...whoeva said they don't work hasn't used em or doesn't actually wanna quit.."ahh bugger the patches...i 'll just stop smokin" pfft yeh wateva

i had a spell of about 3-4 months of not smokin.....the patches worked a treat....untill i decided to smoke again lol

My mate's brother decided he wanted to give up smoking and started using the patches. He bought a box, put one patch on his arm and couldn't get it to stick properly. So he cracked the s, tore the patch off, decided they were sh1t and that they were too expensive anyway and just gave up cold turkey. And he was one of the smokiest smokers I know, it's not like he wasn't addicted. We all knew he was and he admitted it too.

My step mum gave up smoking about 12-18 months ago. She found it was easier if she got herself addicted to chupa-chups. If anyone's after a way to give up, apparently that worked really well.

thats a shame about the patches
i bought a brand called quit x....only 18 odd bucks a week for patch supply....alot less than i spent on cigs so if u can afford to smoke u can afford to quit
