Default Non-Smokers: Would you date someone that smoked?

I don't know what's up but alot of the girls I've been meeting have been smokers and everytime I find out they smoke I cut it off right away, usually happens on the first date. So am I cutting myself short?

Nope. I can't stand even being in the same room with a smoker after they've had one. It stinks. I can only imagine tasting it would be 100 times worse. YUK
Plus I'm asthmatic, and allergic to cigarette smoke, among other things.

What the hell has eggs go to do with smoking??? Im an x-smoker and i will tell you now i hate the smell of it it get in you clothes in your hair (not that i have a lot these days) and if i have the choise i will not stand in the same room as a smoker. The sooner they ban it the better. And before you start on me Kev i chose to give up for the health of at the time my young daugher. If you whant to smoke you go for it son, but i for one do have to agree with you.

Agreed!!

I can't be around smokers due to illness.. so that pretty much answers it for me in reality.

My girlfriend smoked when I first met her years ago but she quit quickly.. not by my doing it was just timing.. she was sick of it and wanted to quit.. so I was lucky as I couldn't have stayed with her otherwise.. now we've been together for like 3 years :P

go and die in a paddock somewhere then instead of using my tax money to clean up your own self inflicted mess.

non smoker and non drinker here and while its not an issue for me, if i was going out with a girl who smoked or drank i'd show em the door (and have done so).
Unless theres something super special there those 2 habits are pretty damn hard to break.

Fair suck of the sav b2f. Just because you live life like the Amish doesnt mean everyone else has to. If you will reject a person just because they like to have a drink, thats a bit weak mate. If you cant forgive someones faults, no matter their scale, then you will have no chance in any relationship. I forgive my partners faults as she forgives mine. If we cant do that, theres no point being together.

No I couldn't see a girl who smokes. One of my brother's smokes, my mother recently took it up again due to "stress" and my best mate smokes, I find it repulsive and get bloody angry when it's blown in my face. Clothes, car, breath. You may as well not put on a cologne. I was best friends with a guy back in primary school, and his parents used to drink and smoke like fish and chimnies! I would come out of the house, whether it was five minutes, or five hours with my hair and clothes absolutely reeking from cigarettes.. That put me off like you wouldn't believe.

And for all those thinking we're your typical non-smokers, well it fu$#!ng stinks. It's a bloody vile smell. Comparable to a really bad fart!

No, smokers are on my banned list. Can't stand the smell. Not much point dating someone when you can't get within a metre of them before feeling woozy from the fumes. I don't think it's anything to do with being a 'nancy boy' at all. We all have our preferences and I'd prefer to be with someone I could be close to without having to put on a gasmask.

well i find smoking fould and girls breath after it reeks, but the way i see it is if i like her i can always ask her to try giving it up, after all its only going to save her money right, and that doesnt mean that i have to take it up myself, but i do agree with what people are sayin, i hate the smell of it too

I have gone out with a girl that smoked, so i guess I can say that I can do it. But I had big problems with it cause of the smell. She tried really hard to cover it up so I wouldn't notice but that never worked.

In my old car when my dad smoked in it I could smell it after two days, so I woint let anyone smoke in the BA.

So if I have a choice, I'd say non smokers preferred.

well im smoker myself.
although i cant smell it on myself, if my partner has a smoke when i havent for a while, i can smell it and it doesnt smell good.
i can sympathise with the non smokers about that.
really though, if you like/love someone, you like/love them regardless of what personal habits they have.
so in my answer to the thread, YES you are cutting yourself short, but you have the freedom of right to decline what you dislike and that is fair enough.
all i ask though is that us smokers not be discriminated against any further. we have a freedom of right too. we pay EXTRA tax over others (for our RIGHT to smoke) that dont smoke and yet we still get treated as though a black person would 50 years ago.
fair go guys. thats fine if you dont wanna breath our smoke, no probs there and ill even abid by your rules (pubs, shopping centres and the likes), but since when is it OK to discriminate against a group of people?
the way it is now, i feel like a criminal for smoking outside of my house/car.

I'm a social smoker and I dont care. The girl Im with at the moment smokes as well, It doesn't bother me. I hate the smell of myself after a cig however and always brush me chompers afterwards. The smell of your fingers sucks too.

I never Smoke in the Zetec either. It still smells new.

Mmmm well after having gone out with both, I prefer non smokers (I don't smoke, never have, never will).

Having said that, my father smoked around me all my life, and my husband smokes. He did when I met him... but he never smokes inside the house (although when he's alone inside the EA he will... and it REEKS when you get in afterwards).

He gave up for 7 years, and is planning on giving up again this year (well, that's what he told us and he only has a couple of months left).

I am REALLY glad they are phasing out smoking in pubs and nightclubs though. One thing I hate with a passion is dancing when people are smoking - you come home with your clothes and hair smelling truly disgusting, and the 2nd hand smoke damage is pretty serious.

Going by the question, and that I was in the position to "date" someone then yeah I could tolerate it, but I'm not waiting around if they have to stop to smoke or whatever. If they can't handle it then goodbye.

If dating meant "long term relationship", Id support her to quit the habit, as I think that a relationship means that we should be being able to look after one another and try to give each other what they want.

I'm a non-smoker and very little drinker(1 or 2 saturday nights a month).
