I remember going out to Amaroo Park in Annangrove when I was a teenager with my mates.
It closed on the 23rd August 1998 and is now a housing estate. Oran park was also a great race track with plenty of history that's closed and now also a Housing Estate. Castlereagh International Dragway is another that was closed for yet another Housing Estate. |

We keep having kids and they want a house somewhere, then they have kids and they want a house.
Where else you going to build? the moon. developers do their sums work out if we buy that piece of dirt how many can we fit in, then the new neighbours kick up carp about the noise and force these places down then the developers make their killing If you want these places to survive, tie your d(i)ck in a knot dont mess with women, live in a tent on the beach and convince all your mates to do the same pure and simple why the hell anyone wants to live in Sydney is beyond my understanding.

Councils want rating income and are in cahoots with developers.
Its a kickback scheme. Tailem Bend is a new track never going to become a housing estate. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Sort of related but they're going to build apartments inside Moonee Valley Racecourse here in Melbourne - its a horse racing track:
https://theurbandeveloper.com/articl...e-regeneration Looks like houses are starting 'from $1.155M' for 3 bedrooms: https://developersites.com.au/moonee...SAAEgJYZPD_BwE |

mate,
That's like these silly people who buy a house near an Airport then have a bitch about the plane noise. I understand that not every body loves cars and car racing like you and myself and every body else on this website. its just a shame these race tracks are lost for ever . |

One great one nearby me at Winton. Vic.
I can hear the roar on weekends, trucks on the Hume at night and freight trains passing by. I love it. Hung around Amaroo Park in it's heyday, such a shame its gone.

Yeah Amaroo was brilliant! Sitting up on Bitupave Hill watching the Sierra’s still trying to put their power down..
Or the stop go before the “Main Straight” where if you had brake failure, you went straight into a concrete wall.. Just a creat little track with heaps of character and always suited a great handling smaller car.. Oran Park, absolutely brilliant. First went there in 1986 and remember watching DJ in the Greens tuf Mustang taking on the BMW’s and Nissan’s and the VK Commodores. I don’t think I missed another ATTC race there until it closed. Lakeside, Calder, A.I.R, Surfers. All great tracks that are either no longer with us or are no longer used on a regular basis..

My first touring car racetrack spectator experience was at Lowood ( where ? you say ). I went back there about 10 years ago to see if there were any remains of it around. The locals had no idea what I was on about, as none of them knew or had heard about it.
Similarly with Hume Weir. All of that is gone with the modifications to the dam. Can’t even drive over the dam wall anymore. Warwick Farm ? That’s only been for horses hasn’t it ? I don’t think ‘motor’ racing as we knew it will be around for much longer. Horrible noisy, stinking, fossil fuel emissions destroying the planet, using precious resources. The Bathurst 1000 will become the Mt Panorama Condominium 100, with a huge expensive ( green, carbon neutral, sustainable and koala friendly) resort at the top, enjoying the landscape view, only interrupted once a year for a few hours by modified electric golf buggies silently lapping. |

Modern medicine is keeping people alive for longer so even with our low birth rate there isnt a drop in population. Plus immigration is a major cause for population rise. |

Immigration is a GIANT Ponzi scheme by the Government to Keep Wages down & keep the building Industry alive..
The eastern seaboard is reaching (IMHO) peak population & is beginning to smother/pollute itself to death. Yet rural communities are withering & dying... Just my 2 cents worth.. |

A heap of our migrants at work had been offered sponsorships on Melbourne's fringes for work offering visas but knocked them back until they found an inner Melbourne based business who would sponsor them for visas. With Adelaide their population of kids goes to university there then comes out with limited opportunity to get work in their field of study in Adelaide and they all end up over in Melbourne or Sydney chasing internships and graduate positions. Unfortunately when school push everyone into University rather than guiding them to other opportunities like trades you end up with these situations - last time I was in Adelaide I saw a freight company with a sign out looking for HV mechanics. |

The good thing about this forum is there is a lot of very smart people to have there say.
I don't think Bathurst Mt Panorama will ever close for a few reasons. 1. It brings too much money into the area for Bathurst Council. 2. Its a public road when for a good part of the year. 3. Its a tourist attraction. 4. if they did stop racing cars there it wont happen in my life time! |

Hi Franco,
My father in law came over to Australia as a 17 year old from Ireland in 1953. As soon as he walked off that boat he was transferred to Young in the bush for two years to help the famers and stayed for 18 months. he said "it was hard in the summer because of the heat but other wise it was ok he looked after the animals and feed them. There's a lot of Country towns crying out for people some even will pay you to move there, maybe the Government need to say "you come to Australia then you go out to the Country for 18 months? |

His missus is from Spain and she has the same thoughts. He has been offered regional positions on the regular but won't take them up because the lifestyle out regional sucks and I agree with him, you just don't have the restaurants, the culture and the sheer amount of entertainment on offer like you do in Melbourne and Sydney. These country towns need to attract people on their own merits rather than trying to force migrants to move out regional - all that will happen is the ones that stay will do their bare minimum terms then move back into the cities. It's the same with farms and the government exploiting backpackers with visa extensions if they do some time in the boonies picking fruit on farms, because they don't pay enough to get locals to do it, then what happens is they exploit backpackers with huge fees for accommodation so pay nothing then take what little they pay for the work back through large fees - a few of our guys at work did the farm thing as tourists before getting sponsored work visas. My grandparents did the whole fruit picking thing back in the 1940s/1950s when they migrated over on farms and it wasn't even worth it back then let alone in 2019. |

We might even lose Wakefield Park if Goulburn Council has anything to do with it.
Talked with a guy from Goulburn last week at Winton and he tells me council / EPA there are monitoring sound levels due to local residents complaining about the noise.

It's a shame. Used to go out to see my BIL race his Torana in the late 70's at Amaroo. Watching the field crest the hill is still vivid in my mind.
Moved from Rooty Hill a few months ago and could always tell on a clear day what was racing on the weekend. Also loved the 5 seconds of blat from the Top Fuelers. |
