So driving home from grocery shopping, we got hit by a car.
We were in the middle lane, turning left. Other driver was in the left lane... going straight. Anyhow, only minor damage, and having just had the lights go green, low speed, so no one was hurt. But then I realised something after I got home. All the bad driver stereotypes... Asian Female P Plater Volvo driver Yes. All in one. I burst out laughing when i realised. (It's okay, my Falcon was at home, we took the girl's Audi) |

But rather than addressing the problem with these types of drivers, society will call you a racist and make her the victim

Now if she had offered you $1000 cash to not claim on your insurance, then the stereotype would be complete.

Haha, I did think about a hat. I don't recall one.
I suspect that she wasn't texting at the time of the accident, but very likely when approaching the intersection, otherwise how the heck do you miss the BIG ARROWS. If you don't see the arrows the road does look like you can continue down that left lane. A barrier across the lane on the other side of the intersection would probably help people realise too. |

I am surprised they were only going straight ahead from the left lane and not trying to turn right.

The sad facts are you don't need any driving skills to get a licence in Australia if you excluded someone with no skills from obtaining one you would be accused of discrimination.

I was T boned by a woman who came off the exit ramp from the M2 and at the end of it when faced with a T intersection with 4 lanes of traffic, went straight through. My car was written off (EFII Fairmont wagon with an easy $10k in it) another car she clipped and her own car were all damaged. The cops turned up and told us to 'be on our way' I said , 'officer, she has to be dui or mobile ph' his reply ' swap details & go home'. I said to him,'how do you drive through a stop sign at a T intersection if your not dui/on drugs or phone?' I told him this car was my work car and I work for myself, the downtime from the the car was fully rebuilt etc had cost me a lot, he couldn't have cared less. What annoys me the most is, if I was in the wrong I know I would have been bagged & blood tested at a minimum by the coppers. 3 years ago I went down the shops about 11pm so I had ugg boots on. Anyway,at the lights my foot slipped and I JUST touched the car in front of me, no damage at all. There were police in the car who had knocked off so they rang there mates and I was taken to hospital after I returned a 0.0 bac and blood tested & urined. They couldn't get it through there thick heads that it was a simple mistake and I was sober. Remember there was no damage to either car. I got home a little after 1:30am. Look at the two situations and maybe you can see why I have little respect for the force. Yes they do a tough job, but it is a choice and there is the 'right way' & the 'wrong way' to do things. In that, they are no different to any other persons profession. On top of that, the woman's husband started to ring & pressure me into not going through insurance, mine insured for $4400. He said it wasn't her fault, that my car was only worth $1500 and her father had recently died and she was distracted...seriously?

Never did understand the "don't use your insurance" people, instead of paying a $600 excess, I will pay you $4000 to repair your car instead

What, no way, I had a very similar incident about a month ago!
Asian Female P Plater (but she was 50 years old) Spectacles as a license requirement - but not wearing them at the time Mazda 3 She pulled out from a stop from the far left lane and hit me as I was travelling in the middle lane. Her response just as we got out of our cars "Oh no, I just had my car repaired 3 weeks ago from my last accident." What you see here resulted in me receiving a $4800 repair bill payout (cash in my bank account), I opted not to have it repaired as its not structural and will replace the 3 panels myself if I ever feel the need. |

Yeah definitely, its a highish km car I'd struggle getting $3k if I were to sell it pre damage. I'm waiting for the same coloured panels to come up, otherwise i'll just get white panels and spray them myself. But hey, at least I don't need to worry about carpark dents now, thats a bonus.

Similar thing happens to me on a regular basis - almost weekly.
Park at World Sq in the city. Left lane only turns left, middle lane goes straight and right. So many people can't wait in the correct lane behind cars turning right so they jump in the left lane and go straight. Some of them turn into the parking lot, which happens to be on the left just after the intersection, but some decide they want to go straight so cut across to the right. Now, I do the correct thing and stay in the lane to go straight, then indicate left to go into the parking entry. The amount of cars I need to swerve for and dodge just because they can't wait astounds me. Just last week it was a brand new Audi. They turned into the car park in front of me. We exchanged words and apparently I was the one in the wrong. Would be nice to have a old banger 4x4 with the front external pipework for protection - perhaps I would need to brake hard and dodge them any more... Cops should just sit across the intersection and make thousands every 15 minutes - I bet this happens every phase of lights.

The cops don't care about bad driving & people going thru red lights & ignoring arrows etc.
There is much better money to be made booking cars out of rego & doing 15kms over the limit. Dr Terry |

Have to agree with Dr Terry unfortunately. The cops don't give a hoot about right vs wrong.
Let the insurance battle it out they say, problem with that is, drivers become even more careless & righteous. Again, our society is shying away from morale's & responsibility's and those who can afford it least, get shafted. The'old banger 4x4 that Yellow Festiva mentions is looking very tempting... |

The bad driver cliches are always a good way to enhance a driving story. The sad reality is the worst accidents & fatalities are generally caused by young male Australians.Bad driving is one thing, reckless high speed driving another.

But young female drivers are hot on their tail too - lots of them, just like young guys, seem to have the same idea that the P-plate creates this magical force field around the car that will simply reset the game & put them back on the road after it goes pear shaped. Aggression, inattention/distraction, and recklessness are all major causes, and unfortunately are disproportionately higher in the young age bracket. The number of people, mostly young, that I see on the M7 cruising along looking up & down into their laps while doing 110km/h astounds me. It is so obvious they are texting, especially when they start wandering across lanes, and for a P plater, it's enough points to be loss of licence - aside from having no concept of the dangers of it - but it still doesn't stop them. |

some people don't glance down to look at their phones whilst driving anymore, they look at their phones whilst driving and glance up to check traffic

Am I the only one thinking you should have been courteous and been in the left lane ? Drive for who is around you and the possible outcome such marking would possibly cause.

Perhaps the other person should not have attempted to go straight in a lane with massive white left-turn arrows painted on it. |
