Question Would Ford Expedition work here as a flagship?

Or would it be too big?

I think it'd be cool to have an aluminium body-on-frame SUV with three rows, independent rear suspension and since the F-150 is getting the option of the 3.0-litre Lion Diesel V6 with 202kW and 600Nm ( US Transit is too,aparently), then surely its possible to put it in the next Expy. With a 10-speed auto it should be pretty thrifty and effortless.

With this combination it'd almost be a spiritual successor to Tezza (which also had Lion V6) , but the current version is 5.2m long and 2m wide so maybe too big? Anyway I'm just saying it would be boss as.

I think it would work, very close in size to a Land Cruiser or Patrol, but with a 3rd row adults can sit in fairly comfortably. Good road trip vehicle.

I dont think there would be much of a market for it. Aussies have turned into a bunch of snobs For the Money ford would ask for it people would rather have a euro, so they can tell their friends "we bought an audi" you tell people you just spent $120K on a ford and they'll choke on their skinny latte and ask why you didn't get the Mercedes - it doesnt matter that its half the size all people car about is the badge.

On another note, i think ford should have based the Everest on the explorer body shape instead of the Terri it looks to have a much larger rear and would have suited the jacked up ride height better than the bubble looking rear of the everest.

Agree, the Everest is in a Toyota dominant section, with cheaper variations from Mitsi, Isuzu etc.
Can anyone update how well they are selling?

Explorer would have been better suited here, perhaps with the 3.0 lion v6 diesel option as well as Ecoboost - though it wouldn't be cheap here.

Expedition would be too big & way expensive - Mercedes GL priced I recon

personally would prefer the explore seems to be a good balance of size and gear.

I also would think the 150 would be a good seller these days given most other dual cabs have gotten pretty big

So true, the cultural cringe aspect of our country is a deeply shameful one in my eyes.

I really think they should launch the Lincolns brand in aus.

bring the navigator and continental to aus and maybe the explorer??.. as Lincolns not fords, as they wont be affected by the ford badge. and I think Lincoln would have a positive branding in aus. (I still think GM should bring caddy as well)

as Australia is buying premium vehicles more and more often, so a stand alone luxury brand of Lincoln could work. as the badge snobs are only getting more common now.

I know that none of the larger Lincoln stuff is engineered for RHD at all... but we can only dream.. and hope that the one ford idea will make a RHD Lincoln a thing

also would the expedition be much larger then a Merc GLS?? they are quite large but fit oz fine.

I was in a couple of escalades In the states last year.. I was a fan and the size would be handy.. but hard to judge if would fit in oz, as they looked normal sized over there, as the road and etc is built for that size of vehicle but if they are the same size as the size full size trucks (F150 etc) then size would be and issue.

Are you in New Kent, VA? A friend of mine just moved there.

@Chopstar, a little bigger than a Merc GL. A little wider and longer, but I don't think they feel oversized but it depends on what you're used to. I think Australians will be surprised how comfortable and nice they are to drive. Shorter wheelbase than a truck, maneuverability and visibility are really good. The combination of aluminium body, 10 speed and a diesel should give it really good fuel economy. The F150, and I suppose Expedition are supposed to get a 3.5 V6 petrol hybrid too. I can't see why that couldn't be converted to LPG in Australia.

I agree with you about Lincoln, they are finally going in the right direction for global products. I could see Australia doing a lot of the R&D foo.

We hired one for a couple of weeks during our vacation across California few months back. The SUV was an absolute pleasure to drive and there is defiantly a market in Australia for one. I agree that price will be a factor, as "grey_esp" mentions above, $120k buys an AUDI Q7 and most will prefer that. If it was priced around $70k-$80k, i think they would sell well. They are a great drive with power & luxury.

No because they would put a 4 cylinder diesel in it for us.

Large SUVs with big engines have a place in our market, I just wouldn't expect a new player to sell in big numbers straight away.
Especially since they would charge us $80- $90,000 odd for something like an Expedition.

I still haven't seen one of those Infiniti QX80 SUV monstrosities yet.
I bet they will be very cheap second hand in a few years.

I had a good look at the Explorer in the Philippines earlier this year.

Nicely styled and slightly bigger than Territory but better proportioned than Everest in my opinion.

From what I've read so far Explorer is going to remain LHD only which is a shame.

Seen the Expedition over there as well and it is big!
