Hi guys,
The insurance provider I currently have that insures my fgx xr8 will not insure my soon to arrive xr8 sprint because it is a performance car. After a 10 minute chat to them explaining they are similar cars I gave up. Any recommendations for insurance companies? |

Ended up going with NRMA for mine. Who are you with who won't cover a "performance" car?

I've used AAMI for all my Turbo's and have just insured the XR6Sprint.
No issues, but I do think it matters how old you are and which suburb your in. FYI, Standard Excess ($1,200 i think), replacement glass and unlimited hire car in the advent of an accident, $850 . |

About 20 years ago, the NRMA would not insure my bog standard HQ Monaro 4.2L auto because it was "a high performance sports car". At the time, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at their ignorance of cars generally. I was over 40, had a clean driving record with no accidents, and a current policy holder with them.

I'm with RACQ in Brisbane. I am a long time member (Gold Card) so I don't have have the standard policy excess. I only get this because of my continued relationship with RACQ and the fact I always paid a little extra to have the standard excess removed. However I do have a $400 excess on this car only because it's classified as a performance car. Go figure. Anyway the cost of my policy is $1107 for the current period but it's going to go up by a further $30 when my Sprint arrives. My advice is hunt around but if you are time poor try an insurance broker and get them to do all the hard work for you. I would also tell your current insurance company to get stuffed.
Cheers, Brent

Why? Insurance is a product of the machine. Live life on the limit.

It could be possible that the Sprint being new their underwriting dept haven't given it a 'cat' code for it so they dont know what to class the vehicle as and can't give a price ( they may have price in coming weeks) is just a thought. As other say just shop around. |
