Default Privatisation of electricity in Vic.

Just found this 20 minute clip of what really happened to Vic's power grid and why we are getting charged so much for power.......The Chinese own it all now and the profits are huge but the maintenance is pathetic!

Yea, so much for completion and cheap rates. We were sold a dud so a few could get rich.
Every one should refuse to pay their bill for 3 months and see how they go..

Not sure how true that is, AGL own Vic's largest power plant, which is An Australian company.

Quite possibly.

Hot tempered individuals reacted furiously to the carbon tax and many needed to turn their air-conditioners on to cool down. Those who were unable to cool down chose to vent on talkback radio and internet blogs. That release of hot air, combined with the frictional heat generated from frenzied typing has reportedly led to a rise in global temperatures of over 9000. However, skeptics remain steadfast in their belief that this is not evidence of man-made climate change because the carbon tax was in fact introduced by a woman. Nonetheless, the increase in temperature did not go unnoticed. Visiting US rapper Nelly had to postpone the Australian leg of his 2013 tour after observing that it was "getting hot in here" and 2GB's Alan Jones kindly offered our then Prime Minister the opportunity to cool off with a dip in the ocean. Meanwhile, most Australians sought to beat the heat by turning on their air-conditioners, leading to an increase in their electricity bills.

And it's all because of the bloody carbon tax...

The Chinese don't own the assets (poles, towers etc) they are simply buying the majority share in major distribution companies. In Victoria there are 5 major distribution companies who each have their own assets, and as far as I know at least 2 have been bought out by State Grid Corp China which is one of the largest power companies in the world.

Buying into the companies via shares and becoming stock holders in the company. And they also would be deriving dividends and taking money out of Australia.

Perfectly legal, except we can't reciprocate and do the same buying into Chinese companies (as most of these Chinese companies are de-facto state organizations). Unfortunately them is the lop-sided rules we play with ...

Yes I did see that, but already know all about it not only as a rate payer but also as a worker of one of the companies that have been bought out by China! We did received a months pay in advance as a bonus, reason being supposedly it is a Chinese tradition, but i'm not buying that crap!

All of Victoria's transmission network is owned by SP Ausnet (Singapore Power) and the companies that own the distribution assets are owned by overseas entities and have been for quite a while now. The only company that is wholly australian owned in the energy industry is AGL. Even our main power station down at Loy Yang was privatised and is owned by 2 seperate companies...

Wow -.-

My father works for SP Ausnet, well that is what it's called today. Actually Singapore have invested a bit of money into the company, to allow for upgrades and maintenance. More then the American company who owned it did. They milked it for all it was worth before selling.

Are people only just realizing now everything has been sold off? How did the Howard government keep Australia in surplus? Sold everything. I can list a few company names SP Ausnet has been called in the past, in no particular order.. SEC, TXU, Eastern Energy, T sqaured, Tenix etc

Do people realise what inflation is? Yeah look at prices over the last 10 years omg they have raised so much! What an outrage! Look at wages increase over the last 10 years. Australians are actually one of the highest paid workforce out there!

Saw on the news tonight the Vic government wants to sell port melbourne, one of the last government owned commodities left. Organisations purchase these in order to make a profit. That is how capitalism works. Deal with it.

Edit: Bonus points. Find a government that is not in debt.
Regardless if they privatize all their assets or not, you'll still be paying inflated prices for services. Do yourself a favor and research how fractional reserve banking, the current monetary system works.

Jeff Kennett & the Libs is responsible for the price hikes we are seeing now, he legislated to stop high price rises for 10 years when he privatised Victoria's utilities, that is why we are being slugged heavily now..... Catch up by the utilities.

They sell these public assets for the quick term gain of money but in the end it's going to cost the public more money in the future.
Lets face it though, the pollies are happy to sell everything off to private companies as these companies are 'Probably' in most super portfolio's, thus increasing everyone's wealth.
It's just a shame that, in the end, your basically paying yourself.... in a round about way.

Another interesting piece of info.
We as aussies seem to be following the US in everything without actually looking at what problems this has caused. They, Local councils, govenments, sold off all their public assets years ago as they believe that they are in power to goven, that's it.( sounds like big Tone and Hockey)
Anyway, now during a trip to Hawaii last year, talking to a couple of US citzens, they inform me that a large % of these Cities/towns/govenments are now broke and are trying to access money to buy these utilities back.
Short Term Gain for Long Term Pain.....hmm

lol you guys do understand this is how John Howard made this country "rich".

Funny though how cashing in those national assets for the plastic actually means no more local profit/employment is being generated anymore meaning logically the country is actually poorer/unhappy as a result. But the surplus/bankroll keeps the country rich for the short term and makes the current office look good. They're smart, they know that by the time it inevitably catches up to them enough time will have passed they will be out of office using the negativity to their advantage against the then current office to win then election.

You did say there's plenty info on the internet backing up your claim but I can't even find one and I've searched absolutely everywhere.

Can you show me said plenty info that can be referenced to a credible source?

Just to clarify, for those who may not be aware, Loy Yang consists of two separate generating entities, Loy Yang A and Loy Yang B. Since privatisation, these have remained separate business entities. Loy Yang A is currently wholly owned and operated by AGL Ltd, whilst B station is a joint venture between GDF SUEZ Australian Energy and Mitsui and Co Ltd. All info available here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loy_Yang_Power_Station.

The prime link between the two stations is that AGL supplies B station with their coal as well as handling some of the waste water.

For the record, I work at AGL Loy Yang (ie A station)
