Space efficient car trailers?

So I'm thinking of a project at the moment, and I'd like to investigate getting a car trailer, you know, to make life a lot easier when ferrying said project from one shop to another and back home (or vice versa).

Trouble is, while I may have space for a project, I don't have space for a project AND a car trailer. They're quite a large object to have to store for infrequent use. No, I'm not hiring one every time I need to use one because no one in my area hires them and I'm not driving half way across town just for the privelige.

Have any of you guys come across a space efficient car trailer? Something left field that made you think, "hey that's a good idea". I'm all ears. I'm not sure if a folding car trailer exists like those folding box trailers but I don't know whether I'd trust something like that for carrying a significant weight.

Why not just keep your project on the trailer?

There is an option that may work...

It's a car trailer that is really just a low set trolley that supports the front wheels. The car you are dragging is actually running on the road via its rear wheels.

As for legalities??? Don't know. They are most commonly used by people who have large capervans, they tow a small registered econo car like a Jimny or Getz which I assume is used at each place they stop as a run about.

They certainly aren't cheap, but are very compact.

Easy if it is a FWD but if RWD then you can't have the drive shaft connected and you can't just switch around as it's designed to carry the bulk of the weight on the dolly.

i brought a f350 tow truck and project in 1
depends on ya garage, make the back of the trailer large enough so it can stand up on its end if ya have a way to lift it up vertical maby

To use a gypsy trailer or dolly, usually the towed vehicle must be licensed and insured.
Also as mentioned above, they’re not a good idea for towing RWD autos.

To your original question, no, you need a fair bit of strength of steel to support a car, and that doesn’t lend itself to folding.

Just a thought, trucks have available to them extendable trailers, for example 40 foot goes out to 60 foot, maybe with a bit of imagination you can get the welder and grinder out and fabricate something, I had a trailer with a removeable draw bar years ago, its suprising how it can come together once you put a few ideas down on paper.

Thanks for the input fellas, yes I have seen the Gypsy trailers and others like them and they are a good idea, but $$$ for them is as much as a full size car trailer and invariably you can only tow the car by the front wheels, which could pose a problem.

trouble with most car trailers is weight, once you go over 2000kg towed you have to have breakaway brakes. Most car trailers witha fullsize falcon etc are Illegal. Only just legal with my race car. Maybe having a flat bed with no sides on it will allow you to store the care on the trailer and allow you to work on it. put caravan stays on each corner. What kind of car are we talking about for the project?

Get a gal car trailer and keep it outside.
