Default Fatal crash in Perth with an XB Coupe

Just saw the news where an elderly couple got killed on the freeway.
The report says that a Ford Coupe clipped a ute which in turn took out the old couple in the Hyundai putting them into a tree killing the couple.
the guy in the ute also hit the tree but was OK.
Racing???
They showed the car it was a dark blue XB coupe with nice wheels, anybody here?? hope not.
Unfortunately the coupe looks pretty worse for wear.

Coupe? CLIPPED something? No way. What coupe owner would put his pride & joy that close to another moving vehicle? Must've been the ute's fault!
...
On the other hand, those coupes aren't really renowned for peripheral vision with those huge rear pillars...

It was stated on the news that the XB Coupe had a nitrous system fitted but was not hooked up.
They carried on that nitrous increases hp Blah Blah.
The media will be having a field day next!

The paper today said that:

"although they could not rule out drag racing being involved, this did not appear to be the case."

Looks like another case of the media running their own agenda and convicting people before the full story is known.

On a side note, it makes you woonder about the safety of some of these cars that are allowed in the country. The Kia involved in this accident was a total mess, yet the coupe and the ute remained "relatively" in tact. There was also another story yesterday about a bloke convicted of manslaughter after killing a man whilst running from police when he had a head on collision in his stolen Commodore with a Diahatsu - once again, the Diahatsu was a total mess with the driver killed instantly, the Commodore, whilst fairly smashed at the front, protected the idiot driver.

That would probably save more lives than restricting the speed limit in rural country areas

what they need to do is not have trees along the mitchel free way at all ,some are quite large .
you cant stop all the accidents but at least remove the objects like trees that are likely to kill especially on a freeway

No more info really but heard that the white car clipped the back of the ute and pushed it into the falcon, now it is yet be clarified from my source whether or not they were racing.I only made the point about the bottle because i run one and i know the law,if it was connected, full and bottle turned on there will be trouble.

RIP to anybody that gets killed unduly but it doesnt look good.

from the news article it sounds like wet weather played a part in it. i don't know how fast they were going, but i know how easily the back end of an x-series can slide out in the rain at high speed when trying to overtake. i've had this happen to me when i had a ZJ with a mild 302 long time ago. doing about 80km/h, i just squeezed the accelerator a little too much, the C4 kicked back to 2nd gear and i was across 2 lanes sideways in the rain at high speed without even meaning to... needless to say, i know to be more careful with the throttle these days, but it can catch you by surprise.

i'm really sorry to hear that in this case, people have died.

I feel for the family - and the driver who caused this, a burden to carry for life.

I don't know the area - but on new motorways here they spend a lot of time selecting trees that are frangible to reduce this sort of accident.

On that particular stretch of freeway, if they hadnt have hit that tree they would have ended up in the back of someones house. Which potentially could have killed someones kids sleeping in their beds. As it was the tree is a long way from the edge of pavement. Leave the trees, accidents happen, people die, thats life.
The way some people react to these things is amazing. Soon we will be driving around in little balls of cotton wool down perfectly straight roads with 100m wide verges with no trees to hit.
Then everyone will complain about how much water the council wastes on the verges.

Mitchell Freeway... they should be fixing up the side barriers.

I remember KeepLeft mentioning some time ago (or I could be completely wrong, but i do recall it) that it was a design standard in many countries for stretches of road over a certain speed designation to have side/crash barriers installed. I can think of about 5 or 6 accidents on Mitchell (not Kwinana) Freeway recently where a car has hit a concrete overpass/tree on the side of the Freeway and the occupants were seriously injured/killed. They should be doing what they did with Kwinana Fwy and have those huge sand bunkers/barriers and guard rails...

My condolences to the elderly couple and the XB driver.
