Default Are Simmons wheels still cool or am I old?

I have a set of Simmons B45's. They are 15x7 and 15x8. I put a full set of matching tyres on them with the view to selling them. They are are good nick and undamaged etc. Anyway, I answered an ad I saw for a bloke looking for simmons wheels.

He came over, admitted that they were in good nick and then offered me $100! Each individual tyre was worth more than that! He told me that no one wants simmons wheels any more and that he only buys them for the outer rims because his get damaged.

I looked on Ebay and found an identical set (same gunmetal grey, ford stud pattern, new tyres etc) and they are asking $2850. They haven't sold ....

I was hoping for $1200 for them. I thought that was a good price considering the tyres, chrome wheel nuts, lock nuts and everything I was going to include with the deal.

Am I setting myself up for disappointment? I understand that many people go for bigger and bigger wheels (18's, 19's . . . .22's!), so I can understand if no one wants them.

When I was a young fella, nothing was cooler than a set of Simmons wheels on a GT (and later ESP). Am I living in the past, or is there still a market for them out there?

There will be a small market your trying to sell to so you just have to wait unfortunately.

Simmons wheels are still cool.

People are just asking the Earth for them....thus the lack of interest.

I don't mind waiting, I just don't want to waste my time. Like trying to sell ice to eskimos . . . .

Is $1200 too much, considering tyres, nuts etc?

They are $3300 for a set of bare rims (new), but that is EBAY, too. A lot of dreamers on there . . .

Are the set on eBay 15x7 and 15x8?

Or are the rears 15x10 on eBay?

Big difference if that is the case in my opinion

$1200 is a VERY fair price

I'd say $1200 is quite reasonable for a quality set of rims and new tyres. Of course he'd say that rubbish - he's trying to get em cheap.

But I'd say the demand for that size is diminishing - no Falcons past the E series would want 15" rims.

I have a set on my car but they were on it when I bought it. I've had offers for them a few times of about a grand. 16inch grey centres 225's on the front and 245's rear. Biggest you can fit on an EF withpout pumping the guards.

16s are less desirable than 15s because the 16s have the stepped lip

Nah, 15x7 ad 15x8 - identical to mine. Just had a look, they're down to $2500.

I'm glad to hear that you think $1200 is a fair price. They cost me a lot back in the day (before kids and mortgage!)

I put these on my ESP October last year 16x8 and 16x9..Bought them off Ebay for $1300 fully reburshied with no tyres though..Im only a youngish bloke but they still appeal i think..Everyone loves the old school look and simmons and X series just go together..Wide tyres are hard to get in 16 inch i was lucky finding the 255's..

B45's are the coolest old school wheels around imho

your price seems fair, the market is small due to less and less old school cars being around

I reckon 16" Simmons look great. I don't think the stepped lip detracts but I will qualify that with this - anything less than 8" wide makes it look like there's stuff all dish.

The biggest thing is the lack of wide rubber in 16". I'm running 255/50x16 obsolete Hankooks on the back (16x9 rims). If I need to replace them that tyre size is really hard to get. There's nothing bigger available. Mind you, these 255's are as wide as any 265/50x15 I've seen. They are very generously sized.

I had the 16 inch 8s and 9s on my XY with grey argent centers nothing looks better IMO , tyres selection was pretty limiting though . Plenty of people wanted to buy them too .

Simmons look good on any X series
1200 with new boots sounds fair, but as others mentioned pricy in their day and looking at whats around out there, its a limited market
Most young blokes want those absolutely hideous chrome 12 slotters, get a set for a hundred or so,i know not a 15 " , but thats the first pick, followed by snow flakes, then globes
Pick up a set of 15 " globes rather cheaply if you look hard enuf
Once tyres are fitted regardless of Ks travelled, there not "new" anymore
OP,
Ill give ya $100 each for the rims ,you keep the tyres ........

Well - here is a photo of my old EB XR6 - which I loved...

Had Simmons B45s (15x7) and I reckon it looked awesome...

This car was just for sale again - for $1400.00 - and I MISSED IT because I was sitting on my hands!!!

So - to the OP - Simmons are great - and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

Fair price, the fella that offered you $100 would've just bought them & advertised them for $1200 anyway. The spare outers story is just crap.

I reckon 16" Simmons are great too. I've had two Esp's with them, my Xe Esp had 16x8 and 16x9 v5's with 225x50x16's on the front and 245x50x16's on the rear. They where customised off set specially ordered in to fit an Xe so they had a deep dish and on a red and Black Esp with gun metal simmons awesome. My Xd Esp had 16x10 and 16x12's on the rear the wheels came of a touring car. Gold P5's with gold centres on a Hermitage red Xd = tough. I found the major issue was tyre's so I had to run 255x50x16's all round.

The value of anything is simply what someone is prepared to pay for it. the wheels are good for later X series cars ( XA XB XC) and if you find the right buyer you should get somewhere near your price

the guy who offered you 100 bucks is just going to through them on ebay and hope to get 1000 for them anyways

your price is fair, on fee bay late last year my mate sold a set of v5's in ford stud pattern, tyres were average, needed tlc and got 950, we were laughing because they sold for more then my fg xr6 turbo wheels that were in perfect condition with 80% rubber
