Default What is this aircraft ?

Ok I know there's some aircraft buffs on here, so what is this... two of these flew over and landed at the local base.

I'm 99% sure what it is, just want someone to confirm it.

Boeing C-17 Globemaster III!

For interests sake, our earlier H model Hercs have been considered to be replaced by a few of these.

hey,
i know there are two huge planes called the Galaxie and the Starlifter. This one looks like the Starlifter. It wouldnt happen to be on an RAAF base in Richmond would it? I know heaps of those huge planes pass through there every now and then.

I am definitely telling you guys, it's a C-17 Globemaster III. I work in the air force, I should know.

It's not a Starlifter nor a Galaxy, the Starlifter has a longer sleeker fuselage and completely different aeros. And yes, all three of these planes have been seen around Richmond, though I have been on exercise in Darwin with all three as well. They get around.

They're an impressive piece of aircraft, I saw one when i went to Avalon Airshow back in 2001. The Short-Field Landing and Reversing techniques are paticularly impressive.

I'm amazed by how many people know their aircraft here lol.. Definitely as Timmeh said. I don't believe that is at Richmond NSW, although they are there often. There are too many trees in the background (and green grass?) for it to be Richmond lol.

As said, Starlifter is basically smaller, Galaxie is the bigger mofo.

More info in the C17 for the aviation buffs (like me!)

Very impressive transport aircraft. Aus should consider replacing the Hercules with these.

These planes don't just carry people. They can transport supplies, vehicles and even tanks as well.

There's alot of big Russian planes, can't think of any all painted Black though, as being their only distinctive feature.

Actually it is a VE commodore prototype cleverly disguised with a 3 wings off a Chapel St Hyundai and 4 sooper doof doof subwoofers (2 on each side)
Note how they have extended the idea of nostrels (VZ Monro) into a fully fledged black snorkle nose.
Also note after all the bitching about the lightweight spare tyre the new model has LOTS of spares

Was it an AN124 or AN225? There is only one AN225 that's known to have been made... so I'd assume it was the smaller 124.

it must have been the AN124 then, only 4 engines. They took one helecopter and about 4 trucks worth of equipmet off it. The same plane was in Brissy about 6 months ago too, they took of 2 choppers and a shite load of equipment
