Default Styling of E3 and FG

Firstly I hope this thread can be kept clean without being closed as I would be interested to see peoples opinions.

I remember back in 2008 we were starting to see pictures of the FG FPV and after the BA I really wasn't sold on the over-styled look. So when the dealer got their first one in, supposed to be for a demo which ended up at home somewhere. I actually developed to liking the look as It grew on me.

The VE GTS was a great looking car (HSV's BA GT) and I would happily own one, However When the E3 HSV were released I was shocked. Still to this date I reckon HSV took it a little to far with the over-styled front end, the "special" mags and the plastic looking rear bumper.

So I was just looking to see others opinions and how they believe the exterior designs of the HSV and FPV range is and how they are heading. If anyone is talented and would like to demostrate what they would like FPV/HSV to offer that would also be awesome to see what ideas you guys had.

Although the E3 is slowly growing on me, I think it's mainly due to the fact you don't see many of them. But they had it spot on with the E1 gts

E3 is ridiculously over-styled. I remember when E2 came out people were asking for the series 1 front bar to be put on instead! I think VY was HSV's strongest design period for me, I wasn't really a fan of VZ but the VE was nice.

As far as the Fords, while the GTs don't have nearly as many gills etc as the HSV, I would probably paint the front highlights body colour as they stick out a little too much (on certain colour combos) for my taste.

I agree with the highlights on front of FPV but I like them and think they look nice on Vixen and Winter white.

Your FG is done quite nicely with little bits here and there nice and subtle but still menacing.

I agree the raccoon eyes on the FG FPVs work with some colours but not others. The E3 gts is definitely over styled IMHO but i dont mind the looks of the WM3 Grange
but i also believe the luxo fpv's look better but maybe that's just me

I think the E3 was the wrong way to go for HSV. Even mates who love their beloved Holden's cannot get past the over badged, autobarn styling of the Maloo and sedans. Of course there are some boy races who love it this way ..... Biased (for a reason) but I like the much understated way FPV have always gone about it from B series right through to the FG. Was a bit jealous of HSV having the VZ and then thought they mucked it up afterwards.

Always liked the Racoon eyes on the FG ...... will never ever paint them

A face only a mother could love.

My mate has a black on black E1? (2006 model) VE Clubsport and I think that is a very nice looking car. But the E3, with it's over sized, bulging bumper, stupid LED strip and nostrils, is just way over done. Not attractive in my opinion.

VY GTS and VE1 GTS were winners IMO also like the R8 Tourer aswell (Always liked the sportswagon), cant stand E3 HSV's. Ive never come to like FG FPV all that much, i did like the Pursuit and Super Pursuit utes, but FGII i like a little more now.
I do like FGII FPV's like the above with no stripes

see to me the pic just above ( sorry someone beat me..i mean pic in post 6)is more boy racer in a premium car...way to much bling. Now thats why i feel they headed down the wrong path with E3 styling. With the FPVs im positive your just a biased commie lover if you think they are OVERSTYLED....and by no means ugly. At worst you may just simply not like it. Hsv...u hate it or love it

the caprice at the top looks amazing

HSV's are definantly agressive, and it seems thats what people are asking for.

The FG FPV's are not as near muscular as the BA-BF's, the FG could do with some "chunk"

E3's look okay in black where their 'styling' stands out less.

Where I think HSV really has FPV by the balls is the interiors. Ford/FPV need to adopt a black headlining. Adds an air of class compared to the beige brigade stuff they have now. They also seem to have a better stance but that could be the fat rubber and flared guards.

Mate has an '08 sv6 ute and I've also been in an e1 r8 and most notable is how solid their interiors feel. No creaks, no rattles, no wind noise. Is this common to all VE's or were they just freak cars? My FG will even cream under hard acceleration?

EDIT: *creak

I think HSV nailed it with the E1, and only got better with the E2 and E3 to be honest. I love the look of them and would own one in a second over the current FPV range. That's based on looks ofcourse.
I love the front end treatment of both, but cannot stand the over-the-top spoiler the GT has.

Ok here me out.

I actually like the HSV packge. I would never entertain the thought of owning one though. The front end of the current cars is simply a joke. How does something like that go past so many people and make it to production.

But, I dont mind the rear and i love what they have done with the tail lights. You can commend them on making a distinction between a commodore experience and a HSV one.

IMO this is where FPV needs to step it up and I really hope its addressed come the next update as FG2 was clearly an anominally.

Just build the MMS GT as the standard and rejig the rear with that diffuser that a site sponsor is now working on.

Oh i didnt answer the poll, i dont think either are ugly, they sell to similar people and couldnt be further removed when it comes to styling.

But look who has the runs on the board, respect to that and for them having far more support and stability as a brand.

Looks like HSV had a competition to see which designer could stick the most amount of ricey details on the front end. Just tacky as hell.

Regardless, it is obviously a manipulated pic done with some lens trickery and is not an accurate representation of what the car actually looks like in the flesh.
I'm sure if you photographed an FG with the same lens it would look just as bad.

I think both look good but i did see them both side by side in traffic. It was a clear win to the e3 gts over the fg gt. In my opinion the fg looks too similar to a xr6 fg.

Not doubting its performance credentials of the fg series but a bit too understated for me.

The performance of either f6 or gt completely overwelms the looks though. Id still buy f6 or gt.

AH ... see? There's the thing. No way could you take a bad pic of an FG GT

To be fair then ..... a proper pic. Could there possibly be any room left on a panel to fit another badge, vent or set of neons????? All subjective of course but really ...... that is badly overdone.

Better to be overdone than underdone like the FG GT which looks like just another fleet spec XR6 from 20 metres away.

And the pic you posted hasn't been manipulated in any way

You can just tell how much work was put into lighting and photoshop effects to try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. If anything its been manipulated 100 times more than the other pic, which has no special effects added, just an unusual angle.

Talk about a pot calling the kettle black.
