Default Falcon & the Flintstones - common anniversary.

Just noticed today that Google is celebrating the Flintstones 50th Anniversary, the same year that Ford (and of course Ford Forum members) are celebrating Falcon's 50th anniversary.
Wonder if Hanna Barbara, will celebrate with the obligatory 'stickers' pack on the Flintstones coupe?? Never know they might go one step better & release a special 'bigblock' edition...

Well in the last Bathurst 12 hour race they did quite well, actually thrashing every V8.

Of course after you go up the mountain you have to come down again.

Come to think of it 6 and 4 cylinder cars have won every 12 hour in the modern era.

Torque is the figure that measures the capability of pulling weight. A long flat torque curve it the most ideal for hauling heavy loads. This is why all heavy trucks are fitted with diesel engines.

Which current or previous Falcon based vehicle demonstrates the highest maximum torque as well as the flattest torque curve?

Not talking race/track cars here

Maybe make it a tad easier
Pulling two tonne of the back in a trailer pulling up a large hill/range

My old neighbour used a ZC Fairlane for many years for pulling a very large horse float
Economy wasnt the issue,it had the power
She replaced the fairlane with a landcruiser 4x4 , it couldnt do it as good as the fairlane

Just dont take to V8 bashing i suppose
Bit like comparing a jap motorbike to a harley,would ya say
The jap bike will out handle out perform the harley
But its the sound,the rumble the image
Each to there own

I understand completely but when you make statements like that expect a reply.

The reason why, back in the dinosaur days of the 60s-80s that V8s were the King was that engine technology was quite rudimentary as the computer systems had not been developed.

The only way to increase torque was increase capacity and as there were engineering problems with making very large bores and pistons and increase in the number of cylinders was the technique employed.

The V configuration for 8 cylinders was chosen over others (straight, boxer, radial etc) as it was one of the smallest, simplest and easiest to work on.

As techology improved and engines became more efficient more torque and power cold be generated from smaller capacity so smaller cheaper engines could be made that outperform the older larger engines.

This is the way of evolution.

Dinosaurs once ruled. They were big and noisy and nothing could come near them but they were not very smart.

Now smarter, smaller animals rule. Many still like dinosaurs and some even own new ones (crikey) but the reasons they once existed are now not so relevant.

In saying that, crocodiles are not to be underestimated especially the Wylie ones (meep, meep)

My 4 banger pootrol pulled the caravan, boat, all the prospecting gear, rifles, swags, food, the occasional roo, and all the other crap I camp with around Australia... Twice. Well over two tonnes there. There's a few hills along the way too.

I towed my track car with a 2L pintara a few times too.

Don't need a v8 in the same way you don't need a steam engine. They are still pretty cool and stuff, but its old tech.

FYI Patrols are near 3 tonne
And id hate to tell ya but the job would have been easier and better with the old dinosaur engine

3L grenade built to be a not-grenade. Those 3L's are the best patrols ever - sooo cheap to buy as no one wants them!! ;)

Only when you take it out of context like that. They are the best patrols you can buy - around $5k, and perfect for any number of engine conversions. We picked up ours for $2k with 140,000kms and a popped motor. $3k for a late model 3L, drop it in, no issues.

As I said, best patrols ever.
