Brighton Rd, Adelaide, Fixed Camera question

Hey to the fellas in Adelaide (and whoever knows about fixed cameras), there is a fixed safety camera situated on Brighton rd where it intersects Sturt Rd (just infront of the Brighton Metro and near the BP On The Run). This catches out people traveling down Brighton Rd heading southbound. However I am curious to know if it catches out oncoming traffic heading north? Reason I ask is I believe I crossed a red light by a whisker while I was in the left lane heading north this morning. I believe I have been saved by someone above since after having a quick look around the intersection, there only seems to be cut lines (for pressure pads I assume) in the southbound lanes intersection, yet none apparent on northbound lanes intersection. Also after crossing the intersection heading north at 60km/h, after a second or two your car is basically at right angles to the camera which I figure is too far forward for the cam to get a good enough pic of any vehicle. I also did not notice any flashes but then again it was around 7am. However I may be wrong and sitting here while a fine is on it's way. I am not bashing any fixed cams or am not willing to hear the "well if you stopped you wouldn't have to worry" routines, I'm just curious to know if I got caught. If so I will cop the penalty no questions. So anyone have any idea? thanks in advance

you can only get done if you're travelling the same direction as the camera. I'm pretty sure. I've sped through that intersection going the opposite way and never got a fine. Wasn't by much, about 10 k over.

It depends if they have the strips on both sides of the road (the 4 black grooves in the road that measures your speed) if it has them, you can get done, if it does not (aka only on one side) then your safe.

I'm pretty sure it only gets you as you go past it southbound. I don't know of any of the fixed cameras that get you oncoming but I could be wrong.

That being said, the things are bloody dangerous, I was travelling in the opposite direction to one of the cameras one evening (it had just gone dark), minding my own business doing the limit, I happened to look up in the direction of the camera as some clown sped past it in the other direction, they have quite a blinding flash!!! I wonder what would have happened if it blinded me enough for me to crash into something whether I could sue the government for having such a distraction!

with the government the way it is, they'd fine you for looking at the camera and not looking at the road.

I'm pretty sure it does both directions reason being, the camera is set back from the corner from Oaklands. It has just enough angle to do both. They were meant to put one on Oak/Diag roads(near Marion), they even dug in new underground power cables for it but nothing yet.

All fixed cameras in Adelaide only target traffic going in the direction they are pointing.... at this stage.

Thanks for the replies guys, from what's been mentioned I'm a little more at ease. But anyway just noticed one more thing that throws a spanner in the works which I'm curious to know - I actually noticed cuts in the road in both lanes at the intersection, them 4 that are right behind the stopping line (not in the intersection where I previously looked). They are shaped like a strectched out hexagon, two in each lane that join together. I also noticed these on about four other intersections without fixed cameras. what exactly are they?

I think they are sensors for traffic. Nearly all major intersections with lights have have these.

I think they detect whether or not there is a car over it, then the lights can act/come on/cycle accordingly

Only if there are some in front of the white line do you have to worry. Its when you touch these when the light is red that its going to go pear shaped.

These sensors are effectively a coil, with a small current passing through them. Asd a metal object passes over the top they disturb the magnetic field signalling a car passing over them. The frequency of the pulses determines the light sequence, and depending on the time of day, several traffic lights can communicate together to give preference to a particular direction of traffic (ie to and from city)

I can CONFIRM that you can be. I got caught in the XR8 not 3 weeks ago. on that intersection
