Came across this story. You never know! :
V8 for Territory? Could Ford be considering V8 power for the Territory SUV? :sm_headba The current model is limited to an inline six by its front suspension layout, but come 2011, the Territory and Falcon will both adopt the V6 'Cyclone' engine (more here) imported from a plant in Ohio. Information to hand concerning the upcoming 'Project Orion' Falcon suggests it will boast the same front suspension layout as the current Territory -- and since sales of XR8 Falcons are a lucrative little earner, expect this suspension to be re-worked for V-configuration engines. Even if that doesn't happen for the Territory immediately, the medium SUV will have to make the jump to a V6 when the Cyclone is introduced. Once the engine bay and front suspension have been rearranged for the V6, it's a relatively simpler proposition to fit a V8. Is this the point being made by Ford president Tom Gorman when he said "Once you package that 'V' design, you do get some economies of scale in other 'V' engines, so that might be diesel power"? It might also be V8 petrol power... And it potentially paves the way for LHD exports :sm_headba

I'd personally like it but I don't see it happening as sales of non XR & FPV V8s has been so low I can't see Ford bothering. |

they built 1 and it shouldnt really be classed as a territory......the entire front suspension of that thing is from the XR8 they used as a donor car

What's the sales numbers on the turbo Territory? Ford's target demographic for the model doesn't strike me as the type of people who would pony-up for a V8 .. or even a turbo6? Actually most the drivers I see look like ex-CRV owners who realised that two kids and all the "necessities" don't fit in a CRV. But then again, they might see a few to the people who like the idea of a BMW X5 (is that the right model?) type vehicle without the huge pricetag - a fast AWD which can't be driven offroad, and is too tall and heavy to utilise that AWD advantage ..

The problem is the sheer width of the current V8. Don't know what engine they will be using come 2010 but with the 3V being dropped they couldn't fit the 4V because its too wide to clear the steering shaft which is alot higher in the Territory than the Falcon. The Orions steering shaft must be a lot lower to clear the drivers side of the engine than the Territorys shaft. I don't think they would even want to do a V8 Territory anyway, it would be an absolute gas guzzler.
