Default vin identifier program?

i was chating to some blokes the other day and they told me about a downloadable program which can tell you all your cars info by de-coding the vin number. apparently it can tell you the original model designation, trim colours and spec levels.
bloke i was talking to couldn't remember the website off the top of his head. does anyone know anything about this or where we can get it?

I could make one, if somebody told me what all the VIN codes meant for a certain model.

This would be a really cool program! It would be nice to know what has changed on my car before I owned it.

the main reason i want it is bedause a friend has an xc sedan. some people tell him it's a GXL- coz it has the recanngular lights and grille.... however it was brought as an unfinished project and there is some suggestion that it started life as a falcon 500 with a 250 x-flow donk...it now has a 302. we would just like to find out once and for all what it is exactly.

we tried google, but mostly got results telling us who VIN desiel is currently DATING.... :togo: which although may be interesting- doesn't really help.

I know Nissan have a program called FAST that tells you all the details and options about a model.
I have not heard about a similar one for Fords, would be handy.

Just give Ford CRC a call on 13FORD I think. They should be able to help you.
