Sounds like fun. Lashings of shiraz and seafood. We dont get much seafood out here.... well at least good seafood anyway.
Which bit of the proposal do you feel is dumb Outbackjack? We don't want to

How about you start a thread trying to organise this get together.......instead of continually hijacking other persons threads.

Seriously.

did i walk through this 'new' airport and not notice ? i flew into Adelaide about 6 weeks ago, the layout was pretty good, small in comparison to what i'm used to, but pretty functional with coffee shops etc etc.

was it re-vamped, or is it a whole new location ??

Little from column A... little from column B.

The "new" airport is still in the same spot as always.... but its a new building, which is several hundred metres NE of the "old" building. Same runways etc still used.

Yes it's small... but remember it's Adelaide we're talking about... population 1mil...

And it was indeed contaminants in the fuel lines which delayed its opening by almost 8 months IIRC. Fine by me... i can only assume those engines are a bit fussy about what's in the fuel tank

Yeah, I think it will do for the next 20 or so years. But the proximity to the city/suburbs is very convenient. Maybe when Adelaide gets to pop. 2 million they'll have a look at an airport 30 kms out of town. Few of the residences in Netley behind the main runway still have landing light poles in their gardens, and some of them got reimbursed to sound insulate the houses.

Flying to Melbourne and Sydney a fair bit, you start to wonder if the location of the airports is nothing more than a ploy to prop the taxi industry up.

If i've got the first flight into melbourne on a weekday morning, looking at 50 bucks to get from the airport to the CBD. Maybe 40 on a quiet evening.

To get from burnside to adelaide airport is $20 or $30 in traffic! Taxi from the CBD to ad airport will get you change from a 20.

My old man used to live just under the flight path near marion rd. A bit noisy for the first few planes, dont even notice it after a while..

Great. Im posting in this thread for its relevance to what you started it about. So how about keeping it to topic so that we dont have to read (again) about some trip or get together you are trying to organise continually....

I keep trying get back to it mate, I really do. Awfully nice folks out there want to meet up and all that, a very nice thing in this crazy world we live in. But if you think this thread has gone off the rails go have a look at charliewool's thread 'BWS "McDonaldising" Our Pubs'. That has been hijacked something chronic, a number of us to blame including myself.

Watching a couple of planes arriving I couldn't help being impressed with the pilot's accuracy and skill in getting the nose wheel right spot on the yellow line as in turned into the gate area and followed straight up to a stop point where the air bridge comes up to meet the door. How the heck do the pilot's judge that? They can't very well see the nose wheel from the cockpit can they? Have they got a glass window in the cockpit floor? They don't have the guy on the ground waving the big pink ping-pong bats anymore. It's not the world's most burning issue, but I'm curious.
Adelaide has finally caught up with every other major city in Australia, all major airports are like that.

sydney will only get bigger again come 2010 when the knock down hangar 96 and extend the domestic terminal, as well as pull down hangars 131, 191, 245 and 271 (all qantas ones) and build the dual lane taxiway

Yes. A holiday. Mmmmmm..... sounds good. Might check out the domestic websites and see what fares are going. My wife says she wants a bit of R&R.
Anybody got views about Jetstar? I want to go to Melb. and I'd rather be dumped at Avalon 'coz I'll be heading straight down the Geelong road over the bridge to Kingsway and St Kilda etc. Seems pointless flying into Tulla.

I've used qantas to fly melb to syd & syd to melb, jetstar to fly melb to hobart, then launceston to melb, and virgin for melb to ade, ade to melb, melb to perth, perth to melb. Gotta say i preferred jetstar, The planes are bigger, newer, and more comfortable (A320's compared to 737's/757's/767's) and the staff were more helpful. Having said that, virgin were fairly good too, but the planes are older and more cramped. This sucked for the flight to perth!

Jetstar is always chaper too! Go direct to their site though to check fare prices, as i've found the flightcentre "check every site" tool sometimes misses the fares. Also webjet is a good site for checking all the fares of all airlines.

When I saw this thread I was like wtf? YPAD hasn't moved.

It is about time T1 (very original name I must say) became operational, with the automated docking systems which are standard everywhere else, just so much more efficient. Quite impressive new tin shed.
