Default Drug Raid GT - Proceeds of Crime

Police raid near Campbelltown NSW, in the news. Alleged proceeds of crime taken away included a white XW GT or tribute.

Be interesting if it ends up at auction.

Probably sit in an impound yard for years and end up a mess.

There is a process, but when it comes to drug related stuff the minute its determined proceeds of crime its sold, or if the crim surrenders it, as some do if they know they cant show legitimate earnings to cover the purchase price.

All I see come up for auction from impound is mostly all Hoon trash, I think with the good stuff it gets sent to the places that get the best dollar.

Well I guess the seller of that GT was asking "drug money" prices, and he got it.

Classic baz who i used to work with had an almost believable theory as to why a lot of Australian 70s performance cars that were worth not alot in the 80s and early 90s shot up in value. Money laundering in the drug trade. So im using made up numbers, but say a dealer buys say an slr5000 that was worth say 5k, but payed 105k because it had 100k of gear in the boot, on paper the car is now worth 105k. So the car is now an asset worth 105k. Then that trend inflates the prices of people who are legit and own similar cars.
When i was fixing up some of the hi bays at shannons in artarmon i asked one of the staffers to move a phase 3. It had trays under it because it was leaking from everywhere, but i asked what he reckoned it would go for. He said half at a minimum, the leaks are genuine. I kept an eye on what it went for, 750k.....

Those numbers don't seem right to me. Used to watch a lot of crime doco's. Half a kg worth $180,000. 180.000÷.5= 360. . . Who the (insert swear word) is gonna pay $360 a gram. But then says worth $50.000. Under 5 years ago ya could get 1kg of pure Columbian ford xd paint code 9 (lol) for $30.000.

I wouldn’t touch that XW no matter how cheap. These guys will get out of the slammer at some stage and they’ll want their car back.

If they have enough drug money they can buy it back, once it goes through the process, they have no legal claim to it, so it would not be worth their while to even go looking for it.

They could come and hassle you for it if they can find you and prove that its the same car as theirs, with the amount of white XW GT's and fakers there are out there it would be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack, plus you will have a lot of interstate bidders so it could end up anywhere.

Agree with that one.
A few years back we went for a look at a police auction, there was a couple of motorbikes there. Just as they were about to come up a few boof heads walked in, auctioneer calls the lot and one of the guys puts his card up and holds it above his head while the other two glare around the room.
Yeah, nah think we'll let those ones pass

I don't think a drug dealer cares about technicalities over who owns their car

Mind you, one of the best customers I ever had was a drug dealer who just came out of 8 years in prison, we got his car sorted out for him after he got it out of storage.
