I find that a bit odd EB.

Firstly, state police departments don't receive the money from speed camera fines. It goes into the respective state government's consolidated revenue fund.

Secondly, it would be most unusual for a 'top cop' from any jurisdiction to complain in the media about a multi million dollar loss of revenue from traffic fines. That would be career suicide.

I worked in police media and public affairs for many years, so have a reasonable understanding of how the game is played!

and the last time I was in qld, everyone seemed to do 10k over the limit

The fines are for revenue raising, they should honestly just come out and say it. Because it’s really a voluntary tax, you don’t have to speed, everyone can drive a few k’s under the limit, and then watch our road network collapse. I’ve copped fines before, no point in getting mad over it. I did it, I knew I did it, life goes on until my next one.

sure but the biggest issue is our speed limits don't match the 85th percentile, in other countries speed limits are set using the 85th percentile method

Australia seems to deliberately set them below the 85th percentile to maximise speeding fine revenue

So what? Other countries do a lot of things we find unfathomable, should we copy those too?

The limit is the limit. I speed, 95% inadvertently, the rest a conscious decision. I know I speed, so when I get a fine, I cop it.

sure, but when literally every other developed country, except Australia, sets speed limits based on 85th percentile logic (and their road fatality stats are similar to us or lower) shouldn't we learn from these countries?

rather than thinking our revenue raising approach to speed limits is the only correct way to do it?

Well everyone including myself, Off duty police office, Road Law maker by the politicians, solictor, lawyer, Judges all speed when is safe suit the road condition still get fine but what about lot of underage kids stealing cars do speeding ,hooning dont alway get fine becauce their under age and crimnal court they know there are no consequences for their behaviour,"BS bring back the whip will fix them up and this will bring biggest wakeup call ,

I almost always drive up to 10km over. I've been fined twice in 24 years of driving, and when I get caught I cop it on the chin.

Speed enforcement laws are ridiculous, as are the seemingly arbitrarily set speed limits. Go ahead, fine me, I don't care.
