Hi guys,
My name is Matt, Im 20 years old. I live in NSW, Western Sydney. When I was young I grew up around utes as my grandfather was a plumber and had always seem to have one ute or another, always changing. So I've always enjoyed utes but had in general had a tendency to stay with Holden. But i did eventually wake up and I just recently (Dec) bought a BA MKII XR6 Ute. Its Toxic in colour and i love it. I absolutely love the look of the Super Pursuits but there was no way I could afford the car or the INSURANCE, so the XR6 was the way to go. As far as change goes most of the things i want done are visual things, at this point in time I dont wanna do any changes performance wise. Things I have done: 1. Added 20 inch ACE wheels/tyres 2. Added Mat Black Racing stripes (thanks to a friend who has a decal business, he added his FPV cutout just about the XR6) 3. In Car Bluetooth (NO MORE FINES) 4. Tinted windows Things I want done: 1. XR8/GT Bonnet - (in the works, thanks guys for helpin me find them) 2. Clear tail lights (cant find MKII lights - are these avail yet?) 3. Hard tonneau?? Not sure if i want or not. 4. Lower front grill to match top grill (found on ebay are these the right ones?) Now a few questions.. Are the clear tail lights avail for MKII yet? If so where? Hard tonneaus? Pros/Cons? What do you prefer? At the moment I like the soft on my ute it breaks the colour up a little. Anyone know any prices on hard tonneaus? Any other visual additions worth doing? Thanks for reading this post and heres my car.. Matt

I am not a 'ford' ute owner but i have heard the soft top straps can rub the paint away. I'm not sure if the hard tops have any of those issues, and atleast a hardtop can be locked.

Gday Matt and welcome. Good to see the switch to Ford. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but your ute colour is citric acid, as toxic (more green) came out with the BF.

Its toxic.. I think my car was somewhere in between the BA n BF.. It is Dec 05 plated..and it has BF interior. If thats possible. But im 110% sure its toxic as my friend has a citric acid and its more yellow.. The fact that its in the sun and just washed might be throwing people off..!

Sounds good, no tail lights.
When investigating insurance and what not the XR6T and XR8's were incredibly rediculous as far as $$$ go, an extra $1500-$2000 minimum, so engine mods might be out for a while. What are peoples thoughts on the hard tonneaus? Pros/Cons? And Im looking up the lower grill, many of these on ebay? Are these the right ones? Thanks!

Youre right about the colour of your ute mate, it is Toxic, a few pre BFs were produced in this colour.

I like the commo ute ones as they sit nice and flat and look part of the car but the ford ones are either too wide to get around the tub liner edges or they make the back look about 100 mm higher. Just never seen a good looking hard top for the ba's as yet.

Haven't seen clear tail lights for late MK1 and MK2 as they have reverse light built into them and not seperate like early Mk1. I think they can look ok on some colours but better off spending money on performance mods like another user said. Excellent to see you are now a Ford man. Welcome aboard. I have had many Ford utes and love em dearly. But back to sedan now. Trying to talk misses into getting one!

Toxic was available on some of the very late BA MkII's - the ute is definately not citric acid.
No clear tailllights available to fit your ute, reverse light is built into the housing whereas on early BA's they are not. Reason for change was so the RTV could use the same taillights as the base model ute - had it have been in the old spot on the RTV, it wouldnt have made Aus standards.

nice ute, welcome. With regards to the hard covers. what do you use the back for most of the time? If you dont want to put bikes ect in it then a hard cover is a good way to go at least the back is secure. And the hard covers are not that hard to remove!

At the moment not much, so far all I have put in it have been a plasma tv, ice for a bbq and I scuba dive so that stuff is in there once a week or so. If i do go hard tonneau should i wait until awc have released theirs? I'll probably be heading over to them in 3-4 weeks for the XR8 bonnet, so if that works out i might wait for their tonneau
Its plated either 11 or 12 2005, a little unsure, but I had to wait for the car to be built when i ordered early dec.. the interior ive been told is bf, when the guy workin on tinting my windows showed me a few differences that help him do the windows easier on the BF.

Top car Mat ,don't go the clear lights as it looks sad .but the hard cover are a good way to go and the colours they come in is unreal (try black) and it sounlds the ute isn't a work horse so it's alright there..

Thanks wazza,
Ive decided to give the lights a miss. I spoke to my insurance company yesterday and I will be unable to do any engine mods so most of the changes will have to be external only unfortunately. My list is now: XR8 Bulge Bonnet Hard tonneau (might wait until AWC releases theirs) Possible dump Chrome top/lower grill

There is a company making Carbon fibre bonnets (probably fibergless versions too) of the BA Bulge variety - not sure about their name though, could be AWC. Might be worth looking into as you will get a bit less weight over the front wheels.

I know you said no engine mods, but surely they would allow a cat-back exhaust? If so get yerself down to Thompson Ford in Parramatta and check out the Ford fitted Herrod cat-backs...its a great mod for not much $$$
