Tough Brazilian dual-cab 4x4 ute for Aus

New military-strength off-road pick-up range to include Aussie-developed EV version
General Motors may have killed off its Hummer brand in 2010, but its spirit lives on in a range of hard-core Brazilian-built off-road 4x4 utes to be launched in Australia this week.

Bendigo-based mining industry supplier Safescape will this Friday launch the Agrale Marruá ute in single-cab, dual-cab and Australian-developed EV forms, following its debut at the Austmine Conference at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre over May 21-23.

Aimed primarily at the mining industry, the military-grade Agrale Marruá AM200 is Australian Design Rule compliant, road-legal and will become available to private customers, although for now the home-grown electric version dubbed Bortana EV is not.

The Agrale Marruá is a heavy-duty, diesel-powered Brazilian utility vehicle new to the Australian market. Traditionally used by the Brazilian armed forces and in the mining, forestry agriculture and firefighting industries, the Marruá is a robust, low-maintenance, corrosion resistant vehicle.

Including the all-new electric version called the Bortana EV – designed specifically for the mining industry by Safescape in collaboration with 3ME Technology and the METS Ignited Project industry-led Australian government initiative – Safescape says the vehicle will transform utility vehicle duty in the mining industry.

According to Safescape, the Australian hard rock underground mining industry consumes about 800 utilities annually and the average monthly cost of ownership of the vehicles is around $10,000.

Looks promising - 2.8L Cummins ISF under the hood, while the 79 series has a 4.5L TDV8 it's only rated to circa 430nm in factory trim or there abouts.

You disappoint me.

When I saw “Brazilian Competition” and observed it was a thread started by yourself, this was not what I expected.

Looks pretty cool, I wonder what they're worth for a dual cab 4x4 variant - I'm betting $80,000-$100,000 a pop.

They do look the goods.

But... for that money, (or there abouts) I would be looking at the Iveco Daily 4x4 6 seater.

The Iveco Daily 4x4 is an absolute beast.

The Agrale seem to be on trial at the moment in a few mines, I'm interested in hearing how they go.

110kw/360nm and it has a tare weight of 3100kg!
I'm surprised it can tow anything let alone 3500kg.

This is the spec sheet from supplier:

https://agrale.com.br/2019/ficha-tec...uaam200-1/185/

You're right that thing is a beast at circa 3000kg - I wonder why it's so heavy? Maybe it's based on a light truck platform?

Missed opportunity - imagine one of these with the 5L Cummins ISV that the Nissan Titan has:

https://mr4x4.com.au/cummins-v8-to-h...eater-numbers/

Quad cam, alloy heads, 235KW/752NM in stock form out the box.

I'm suspecting the reason this engine is now coming to Australia in 'greater numbers' as per news article is Nissan is discontinuing the diesel option in the Titan in the USA lol

Hmmm

Same price as a 79

Less parts backup

Worse interior than a 79

Why would you buy one?

Might be alright driving around a Mine site, But It's underpowered for out on the open Road..

& I speak from Experience.. .
My Ute has the exact same Motor & it's half Its weight..Don't get me wrong It's a great Ute & I'm very Happy With It even Towing My 2800kg Rated Trailer.

But double the tare weight add a big trailer & she'd be Huffin' & Puffin' Big time..

True, but they are a bit bigger than a dual cab pick-up.
This has the dimensions of a dual cab ute and the weight of a 3t truck.
I wouldn't want to tow up hill with 5 occupants onboard and the air-con on (if it has air-con).
