TOYOTA LandCruisers were the most stolen vehicles in Queensland.

"TOYOTA LandCruisers were the most stolen vehicles in Queensland over the past three years, knocking Holden Commodores off the top spot, the RACQ says.
The result came in an analysis of more than 50,000 claims for stolen vehicles in the past three years that also revealed 18 of the top 20 suburbs targeted by thieves were in the southeast corner.

Toyota Landcruisers, Ford Falcons and Toyota Corollas were the most commonly stolen cars in the past three years.
Southport, on the Gold Coast, was the top suburb for stolen cars from January 2015 to the end of December last year, the analysis shows.
Red Hill in inner Brisbane, Harristown in Toowoomba, and Caboolture filled the next spots on the list. Besides Harristown, Maryborough was the only location outside of the southeast corner on the list.
RACQ spokeswoman Kirsty Clinton said Toyota Landcruisers, Ford Falcons and Toyota Corollas were the most commonly stolen cars in the past three years.
"Traditionally, Holden Commodores had been at the top of the list for a long time but maybe Holden Commodore owners have heeded our warnings and are protecting their vehicles," she said.

Ms Clinton said the analysis did not reveal why thieves favoured any particular suburbs or cars. "We're not sure why these areas are the most at risk for car theft but we do know there are things people can do to reduce their risk," she said.
"They sound really simple but we're so busy these days that we often forget the simple things.
"You need to lock your vehicle whenever you're not with it and keep the windows up.
"Wherever possible, park in a secure garage or park somewhere well-lit and well-populated.
"Thieves are often opportunistic so don't tempt them by leaving valuables visible inside.

Funny cars those ones, the true spirit of Toyota “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. If only they had kept making their late 80s and early 90s model range to this day though

parts, newer model parts will retrofit nicely to the older models

whats sitting in them, often tools or camping gear

When the company I worked for changed over their fleet in 1988/9 one of the staff locked their keys in their new EA. I pulled the top of the rear door away from the body enough for another bloke to slip his hand in to undo the lock....

Oh god no!
I used to have landcruisers as company cars and those years were the worst.
I had zero interest in them and don't know engine models but those na 4.2l diesels were dangerous.

Maybe downright dangerous but those are very tough cars. Rode in a 1985 landcruiser once, that thing was near indestructible. Had the handling and performance of a piece of farm machinery. Old man dozed off slightly once and veered off the highway, bulldozed 10 white markers, and two road signs on the highway. The landcruiser was unscathed. Hit a black crow at 80kph and the poor bugger exploded and emptied his stomach across the windscreen. The bodywork and panels felt solid like no other and I would confidently bet on the thing driving through a brick wall and still remain driveable, maybe even undamaged

Agree, 1985-1990 late 60 series and magic items like FJ73, HJ61RG and BJ74 were a high point for Toyota. First 80 series TDs were a bit of a bomb however...
Our common garden variety HJ60 did 18 months on the road & remote for the cost of 2 flat tyres, an o ring in alternator put in backwards, and a frayed wire into solenoid of starter motor. Not bad as it was already 14 years old!

In '72 I was working on a station in NT that evaluated new stuff on cruisers. That year we got 2 new bore runners. Cruisers with the 4 speed manual box. All before had been 3 speeders.
Anyhow wandering down the beef road at 140ks felt a bump, and the bum went a little lower. Mate in the passengers seat, said "Well, look at that!" I gazed out the left hand side of the windscreen in time to notice us being passed by the left rear wheel.

Another time, this idiot was chasing cattle in the thing and turned the front springs inside out going over a table drain.

We did note that the 4 speeder only had 3 points where it bolted to the chassis, we found this out when both of them broke the lug on the side with the one connection to the chassis. I heard they redesigned the casing.

Bought my first land Cruiser back in 1980, bought it off Hammersley Iron (Tom Price) where i worked and grew to love them it was a FJ45 diesel duel cab and we put another 220k on it before upgrading to a new model, except from replacing a few suspension bushes and rebuilding the starter it never missed a beat, swam a lot of deep creeks in that one...

....I've owned a Land Cruiser every day since, even got 2 of them now, I wouldn't be without one

It's the IFS turbo diesel. Had to do a cv boot so while doing that decided.......new upper and lower control arms with ball joints and bushes, new torsion bars, new steering rack, wheel bearings, brake pads, suspension bushes etc. basically a total birthday and forget about it for another 10 years.

Has anyone looked at what 25-year-old Landcruisers are selling for? It's no wonder they're stolen. Some of these early 1991-1997 models are fetching 20-30 grand, which is insane. This would make them a very desirable target for a thief.

EA's were so flimsy that when travelling over 180 kph (on the track) the wind force used to push the top leading edge of the front doors away from the body and you could feel the draught.
