Can someone explain it to me.
Apart from gaskets, clutches, brakes. Where else would you find asbestos in a classic car? Excluding the higher end classics is this an issue for a "restorer" you might import from the USA?

Basically only way to be 100% sure would be to only import a stripped metal body. |

Border Force is now accepting certification certificates from one or two USA based outfits.
The one at Long Beach checks everything (at your cost $$) and if need be removes offending brake pads (so car becomes a roller) etc., and certifies the car to be asbestos free. This certificate is accepted by the Gestapo here. |

Ironic... If you can just get away with brake linings and clutch that would be OK.

I have just done imported a 1972 Mopar from California.
Buy an automatic (no clutch). Change brake linings with new asbestos free items. Take pics of the wheels off, old brakes taken off, new brakes, boxes that they came in, pressure wash the bejeezuz out of it, take more pics, include asbestos free statement on the box, pics of the invoices, remove flange gaskets, complete import statements properly, dot all I's, cross all T's. Write on windscreen in big letters, NO ASBESTOS. Take car to port and deliver to shippers. Face Mecca and pray. |

This is how rediculous it is getting, these cars have been completely restored, without asbestos products, yet some nazi at Border Force wanted to drill holes in them.
