I am holidaying in the US at the moment. Price of fuel here can be as low as $1.69/Gal, which I think equates to around US 40c/litre (maybe 60c Aus / litre?). Cost me $30 to fill the car up yesterday (about 70-80 litres?). No wonder they don't mind driving big gas guzzlers over here!!

Just seen a pic in the LPG section of a United servo sign in Geelong with E10 @ 97c and get this, LPG @ 39.9c.

Now thats bloody cheap buy todays standards!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, I cant listen to this any longer. Driverless cars could potentially become a thing, but they will never be the sole form of control for a car for a simple reason. The legal recourse in the case of an accident, particularly those resulting in death or serious injury. If you had purely driver less cars then who would be responsible in an accident? The Driver? No, cause they weren't in control. The Company? No, cause they were only supplying a product. Then who? Are we going to send the flipping car to jail?

So at most you can have a system like the Tesla's where you could potentially turn on a driverless "autopilot" mode, but only in circumstances where the driver themselves deems it to be safe to do so. The driver also has the controls on hand to take over at any time and as such the driver remains purely responsible for what the car does. Think of it as cruise control that also steers. That's the very best we'll have.

Now that we got that out of the way, there's absolutely no way in hell that roads will be reserved for driverless cars. That's just absurd. Firstly a government can not openly endorse and promote a system with the legal defects mentioned above. Secondly, the vast majority of the population aren't going to be in support of such a motion. Everyone wants the ability and the RIGHT to be in control of their cars and their lives. In a democracy the will of the people will ultimately always dictate government policy.

Your talking like a futurist. What your saying is definitely possible and could be done. However, the likeliness of it occurring is next to none.

One has to remember the Aussie Dollar is lower now as well.

As for the cheap oil I think it has more to do with the market, the middle east can cut the oil price and that makes the west pumping oil useless as, they face bankruptcy if it keeps going like this and it will destroy our western investments in oil and then the meddle east could just buy our western investments for bugger all down the track.

One thing I don't like is the stations fluctuation on the cycle of like 20 cents a litre and that's a joke.

I think it's about the meddling east is at war with the west and they have the upper hand at play, as they are just so wealthy that they could destroy the west economy, if the west does not play it there way, our governments have let them in the door, so they could own the deed to your house and car etc.
So we have to bow down to every whim and now are bringing in there laws over ours, because they are set on track to be our masters and that's why our PM is so back peddling on every issue that they back down to become a lap dog.

Certainly did. Last Thursday in Mulgrave Melbourne 99.9clp, Friday 1.29.9cpl. Today 1.27.9cpl. Funny that last increase was also 30cpl then took around 2 weeks to decrease to 99.9cpl.

I read somewhere that the added refining cost per litre is about $0.03 per litre.

I could see dedicated lanes such as existing bus/taxi/truck lanes filling this role. Access & egress of the driverless cars to/from said lanes would be interesting...

Back on semi-topic nothing will happen with the oil price/fuel price disparity, nothing ever does.

Back on OP topic it'll stay cheap through a mix of supply, demand, and good ol' market manipulation.

Ye I could'nt believe it when i filled up the other day at $1.25cpl.

Then i drove to Shepparton and its was still down to $1.10.

I notice the same thing coming from Melbourne travelling to Stawell to see family. Ballarat along with Ararat and Stawell is normally a lot cheaper when Melbourne hits its peak.

The price cycle is far more savage in Queensland now. It will jump 30-40 cents per litre overnight. It used to jump 5 cents at best.
Oil companies are still playing games to their advantage.

On the Gold Coast at the moment.
Thursday most places were 99c.
Friday those same places were $1.29.
Amazing.
