I quite often encounter unbroken/double white line markings that are illogical and are probably marked in error. Specifically what I'm referring to is when either breasting a crest or coming out of a corner an unbroken line may continue for maybe a hundred metres or more beyond the point where there is a clear view of the road ahead. Many times I have been about to overtake but have to needlessly delay the manoeuvre until beyond the unbroken line. Sometimes there is a legitimate reason for an apparent "mistake" in line marking because of a side road etc so unless you know the road it would be foolhardy to ignore the markings. Furthermore it is always illegal to cross an unbroken line so I guess we just have to live with the frustration and observe the rules.

Double means neither can cross the centre.

Sometimes it may be because there is a dip in the road ahead that may make an oncoming car temporarily invisible; it may not be apparent to you unless and oncoming car suddenly appears to vanish for a few seconds. There is almost always a good reason for the full line even if it may not be readily apparent; and learning the hard way the reason is not a good idea.

I don't cross double white lines all the time. But when I do, I make sure I'm turning into a driveway.
