It's an ongoing joke. Started in one of the Everest threads I think.

I like the new one better. I really want to see it in the flesh though.

Ford's updated Ranger ute has been revealed in a series of leaked images.

The most popular model in Ford Australia's portfolio will be refreshed around September with a facelifted range sporting minor cosmetic upgrades inside and out.

The images shown were published by numerous online sources in Thailand, where the Ranger will continue to be built, and are of the flagship double cab Wildtrak, which currently retails for $57,390 plus on-road costs in Australia.

The updated Wildtrak will feature the same 3.2-litre five-cylinder engine diesel engine, though it's unknown whether its 147kW/470m outputs will be raised. It currently sends drive to all four wheels via either a six-speed manual or optional $2000 six-speed automatic.

The model shown sports a new front end treatment that includes revised headlights, front grille, fascia and foglights. Previous spy shots reveal limited changes to the rear end, which persists with a clever shutter-style tray cover.

The Ranger is currently designed and engineered in Australia.

Inside is where some of the most important changes for the updated Ranger have been executed. The old button-festooned centre fascia of the current version is eschewed with a large touchscreen incorporating important infortainment and safety functions, including for the first time an integrated reversing camera (previously incorporated into the rear view mirror). The infotainment system will likely use Ford's updated Sync 2 software.

The upper portion of the dashboard features faux leather with stitching, while updated buttons now adorn the steering wheel.

The rest of the design theme shares strong parallels with the Ford Everest, which is based on the same underpinnings as the Ranger and was unveiled late last year.

That's an old prototype model. No texture put in some of the plastics.

Has it got a padded dash?

Is the ranger sold in any markets the the 150 is aswell? I just wish they would make the front end look like the F series.

Facelift is facelift, they do seem to have done a decent amount of work inside for a facelift though. Personally i like the new look, so much so I'm having a good sniff about returning to a Ranger, love my ute but I actually find myself missing my PX.

There is enough of a difference outside. Also the interior has been redone enough to look different.

I was just reading on CarAdvice that they have got spy photos of what appears to be a short wheel base Ranger in testing. I don't really understand what the point of a shorter wheelbase would be as I cant see it cutting huge costs. Maybe someone here with a bit more knowledge might be able to help out ?

some markets have regulations that the SUV and Ute have to be based off the same platform. Everest has a shorter wheelbase than Ranger so......

What benefit is there to have that regulation? Seems odd.

Im still not sold on the new look, doesnt seem to flow at all with the rest of the range and it doesnt look anywhere near as tough as the F series.

The chrome flowing down onto the bumper on the XLT is vomit worthy in my opinion.

Yeah it’s not the best design but easily fixed with an aftermarket steel bar.
