Well...it was more the steering...The wheel moved more into the centre of the car, making it inline with the seat.
Previously, it was offset to the right.

I remember at the time they used the example of a multi-fit windscreen washer bottle shared between all the local manufacturers. If the figures were correct it saved a considerable amount of money. The plan was also what prompted the model sharing system we saw with the XF/Nissan Ute; Pintara/Corsair; Camry/Apollo; Commodore/Lexcen and all those. As we now know, it didn't turn out to be real popular with the car buying public though. Cheers, Russ. |

While E to B series is all interchangeable you cant get a FG one into a B series. You can put a B series into a FG but with modifications. The actual RV mirror may be the same, never measured it, but early models had a hex screw, later models use a screw. Nitpicking I know but it is a difference. Dipsticks moved to the rear of engine on FG, at the front on earlier ones. Mirror switches are down on the door handle area on FG not up near the mirror like B series. Coolant bottle look the same, E series had metal screw caps, then they went to plastic caps, then they dropped off the 2nd overflow hose for the FG. Seats are pretty similar but each model had small changes, extra reinforcing, different covers and foams etc, and then when airbags came in there were many variations. There is probably more than 1 answer to this question but... |

Another one ive noticed, which may even date back to the EB days?
The child seat anchor fitting, they are a different colour but otherwise they're exactly the same.

I wonder ,is there a part that Ford used that has or had the longest life as a current item . One that comes to mind is the transmission mount for falcons from XR to AU III , now before the doubters throw rocks I'll clarify this , yes Tickford resurrected the old mount to use on the T3 and P250 manual trans cars fitted with the Tr3650 .So that's from 1967 to 2001.
