ok here goes,
got a crazy idea to put a 2008 maserati motor and box into a xb sedan. i love the sound of the maserati but like most can't afford the funds. But i do have access to a cheap one thats been a stat wright off. any thoughts would be a great help re the transplant, engineer cert and the fitting of the motor,,,,, haven't pulled the trigger yet so ideas are welcome… no replies with why would you do that…. bla bla. If people didn't try new things the car wouldn't have been invented and we would all have a horse and cart,, my cart would have naked ladies painted on it, with flames painted on the horse. |

90 Deg 4.2L V8. bolt engine and gearbox in one go and use mazza ecu, as mentioned may use crazy wiring type which will comlicate things but no reason why it wont work with aftermarket or modified modern falcon V8 looms. should not be too hard its a chunk of metal after all.
Parts for service or evet mechanics to service it should be considered! as I bet its a bit specialised. JP |

WTF $8k for a clutch, thats my answer right there, i could build a killer 351 for $8k and buy a CD with the sound of a maserati motor.
i thought that idea would have lasted longer than 15 min… maybe flames painted on a horse is too far ahead of its time.. thanks for the info |

Sorry to go off topic, but John, the owner of Alley Cat used to laugh my mates & me for blowing all our money on shiney bits for our Falcons back in the 80's. He used to own The Chrome Exchange at Arncliffe in Sydney back then. He used to say "i blew so much ****in money on that panel van & now you blokes are are doing the same thing as me, only I'm the one making money this time".
Good bloke.

In regards to parts, look around importers or the uk as they have the cheapest parts for Italian cars. I used to import all my parts from the uk for my Alfa as it was cheaper.

The majority run the ZF 6 speed except for the S model? What model Maserati is it? I'm assuming being an 08 and probably not an S model it's a ZF so go for it!
"GranTurismo 2007– ZF 6-speed automatic GranTurismo S 2008– 6-speed sequential robotic with twin dry-plate clutch and paddle shifter GranTurismo S Automatic 2009– ZF 6-speed automatic GranCabrio 2010– ZF 6-speed automatic GranCabrio Sport 2011– ZF 6-speed automatic GranTurismo Sport[7] 2012– ZF 6-speed automatic or 6-speed sequential robotic" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maserat...#Transmissions Quattroporte: "Because of reliability problems and rough shifting with the Ferrari based semi-automatic transmission,[citation needed] a full automatic transmission with 6 speeds (by ZF) was presented at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007 with the first cars delivered right after the launch, marketed as the Maserati Quattroporte Automatica.[13] The Automatica was made available with paddle-shifters on the Sport GT model as standard, but on the base model and the Executive trim levels paddles became an optional extra. With the Automatica, Maserati completely redesigned the under pinning of the car to fit the new conventional automatic transmission and torque converter right behind the engine. They also converted to a wet sump oiling system for cost saving purpose.[14]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maserat...#Transmissions

Easiest way would be engine and all associated electrics like modules and looms, don't try it with just the engine alone.
