To view the QLD Courier Mail on line will now cost you $4 a week !!!
I will now use the Brisbane Times/ABC news site...etc etc..don't see why you should have to pay for it...CNN, BBC news are all free...Packer must be short of $$$$ !!!

so they should be expected to give you the fruits of their work for free and pay their staff because you are too stingy to buy a service? they are in business to make money not for your convenience

hey I like the using advertising to pay idea. I'm off the my local ford dealer to ask for a free XR6 turbo with advertising on it . the advertising will pay for the car , same principal after all you get free goods or services for advertising. it's simple really you want goods and services you have to pay, too many people think because it's online it has to be free

I don’t have a problem with media companies putting articles behind a paywall, provided they are quality articles. I have two paid subscriptions and I think they are value for money. The problem for the Courier Mail is that the quality of their journalism is atrocious and chases after sensationalist stories. That is fine if one likes that type of stuff. It will be interesting to see how the Courier manages their stories after the introduction of a paywall, or if it encourages an improvement if journalistic output.

It is only the English version that will cost.
Courier Mail is still available in its native language http://www.pravda.ru/ |

I agree with whynot and au3xr6's posts fully. The internet has changed the face of newspaper and other paper journalism/magazines. The internet has also facilitated the hunger for 24/7 news/media. I rate having the world at my fingertips from the comfort of my own home at my discretion of what I want to view, when I want to view it - totally awesome!
The newspapers are struggling to cope against the onslaught of their mainstay - people aren't buying their physical product because of the convenience of internet, so they have to adapt. I'll admit that I'd rather "read" a newspaper or book, rather than browse online - it's just not the same. Maybe I'm just old! $4 for a weekly newspaper - meh, I get better bang for buck with my annual donation to the AFF. Cheers!

Lads,
One of my mates works at the courier mail and he tells me they are struggling with online news takin there business away and don"t forget the courier mail is small compared to the packer and murdoch owned conglomerates. If the courier mail does not get taken over it will probably go down and it won"t be that far away according to what my mate tells me. Compare it to the corner shop and woolies syndrome and throw in the internet online news and some businesses are forced to go online just so they do not get squashed but not all businesses manage the transition correctly and go under. |

This is not Courier Mail alone, it is all the editions of the News Limited brands.
Rupert Murdoch told an interview a few years ago that he will be charging people to view his company's articles. http://www.news.com.au/technology/ru...-1225758661415 The Courier Mail is owned by News Limited incase you didn't already know that. |

Ah the irony, CM now wants people to pay for their left leaning rag which is usually 99% full of crap...
Like many people I surf the various news sites and they are virtually all the same news with some minor word smithing. Plenty of other sites and blogs available. |

Last week news.com.au and courier mail had popups on some articles saying you had to register to see them .
I think this is good for me as most news is depressing and I don't need to see who has been killed attacked or hear about politicians |

lol......just wanted to read Paul Kent's column on the daily telegraph website. Came up saying I'd have to join up to News ltd and pay for it.
Went to courier mail website and read it there.

I bought the Courier Mail for the first time in years the other week to read on a plane. It used to be a Saturday morning tradition. Grab the paper, a cup of tea and stagger back to bed for a good read. Geez, there was about 3 pages of news and the rest were adds. I'll stick to the net thanks.............

Good journalism is worth paying for, regardless of the source. The Courier Mail will soon find out if people are willing to pay for the garbage they print or copy from other news sites.
