I do remember this race actually. DJ was running around 6th in the beautiful but in 86, relatively uncompetitive Greens tuf Mustang. 6th would be a dream for DJR in 2013 where as in 86, running 6th was a bad day for djr.
Did the Francevic Volvo 240t win this race?

Should check out the start of the '87 round I believe at Symmons Plains. The mechanics were barely off the grid when the green was thrown on the start.

Different racing line through the hairpin compared to what they do in recent times.
Still bugger all overtaking areas on this track back then. |

Very interesting & thankyou very much for posting that.
5 interesting points from me. 1. How good was Mike Raymond. True professional! 2. That Nissan only has 320 hp & was still a rocket. 3. How much better is the racing with TRUE variety! 4. How good did those old 304 Holdens sound! Truely unique 5. Last but definately not least, how good was Dick Johnson to the TV coverage. Being able to talk & joke his way around while having a heated battle with Graham Crosby. DJ you are a legend!

If I remember correctly that was the year Robby Francevic won the ATCC without actually winning any races. It was his consistency that got him the title, always top 3.

I'm sure he won quite a few races that year including that Symmons round!
