Yes, its a scam...most but not all the time.
I am rather amused by this TOTAL NONSENSE "Managing directors" vehicle, who gives a **** [popular with car yard jonnys!] "Executive driven" vehicle as above [popular with ex motor company stock] "Country miles/car" [wtf, drives on cushions?] "Going overseas" [yeah right, if every person claiming going overseas, AUS would suddenly be empty and very quiet] "Price drop" [Reality is finally setting in] "Must sell" [Finance company are getting nasty] Add more! |

My corolla was a lady owner car
in the 4 years she had it she hadn't used either of the trip meters! Underneath was so clean it wasn't funny it was like she'd just preserved the car for me for 4 years so yes it does happen.

Underneath the "One Lady Owner" statement you might find "and 6 ratbags who thrashed the daylights out of it"

I love it when they advertise that their car turns heads, or a real attention grabber. Heres a tip douche bag, they are not turning their head with envy on appreciting the candy apple pink WRX with huge spoilers and loud cannon exhaust, they are turning their heads and mocking you and laughing their ***** off at all the money you threw down the drain building your dream car!

From what I can tell most women have no mechanical sympathy. When my missus is mad she just gives it to her poor car. But in saying that when ever I try to get a bit spirited in my driving the missus and my 2 daughters soon put and end to that by nagging. I'm sure most blokes can attest to their women getting up them for driving quick. Maybe that's where the term women owner is derived from?

I don't know about other people, but not long ago I ask my girlfriend if her car has been serviced in the 3 years she has had it. Her answer was "I don't know, my uncle something with it once."
It's just a car. A tool to get around in most peoples eyes. |

people seem to forget that 'enthusiasts' are a huge minority. for the larger car buying population, having phrases like 'lady owner' etc, DOES indeed help to sell cars.
of course its not unusual for things on AFF to get way over analysed. |

My soon to be wife keeps telling me I'm 'obsessive' about my car...
I don't know if it's "obsessive" to get annoyed when a new scratch appears ... only when she drives it... or just my inner car nerd screaming in agony as I try to preserve it in all it's glory. I've noticed a common theme though... if I wash the car once a week I'm in love with it and need to see a therapist... if I wash the floors in the house once a week I'm god's gift to women. If I have the car serviced every 7,500km I'm 'pedantic'... if I unblock the drains once every 3 months I get cakes baked for me... *sigh* ALSO! DON'T SHOVE YOUR TISSUE IN THE SIDE OF THE DAMN DOOR! THEY NEVER LEAVE! /rant

Its funny, I've never had a salesman tell me the car i'm looking at had "one lady owner", but there sure are a lot of cars out there that were "owned by a mechanic"...

I seen a lot of salesmen say '1 owner' and hold that in higher regard than 'lady owner'.

If I take my cars as an example, I put fuel in both of mine, not my partner. I take the to get serviced/warranty work done. I wash them, and maintain the upkeep.
My partner just wants the kids safely inside and some rubbish station on the radio. We've had some issues with the ICC in the Territory, and when I ask her if it's working, she says yes. I worry more about it than she does, but she drives it a lot more than I do. Similar with the XR, all she says is that she has to take it easy as it 'can speed off the lights'. So I would advertise mine as lady driver, as the Territory is, but I'm responsible for everything else. I'd say I wouldn't be the only one who does this.

Not entirely unrelated to this thread but "fully optioned"
when I'm looking at BA/BF XR's and there's no premium sound, no leather and in regards to the BF's, no 6 speed... Leaves me wondering where the options are. (paint and fabric protection maybe)

Burt out clutch, gutter rash on rims, dinged bumpers, unserviced.... That's what I think off when I see those adds. I know it's a stereo type but still.
My wife has no idea. She went 2'years without a service. Drives a VT. Poor thing. New heads, radiator, air con compressor, dash came out because of a leak recently. Not everything could be put down to neglect, but certainly the head gasket was caused by running it dry over time. I try my best but it's hard. Most women have very little respect for cars. However, men are becoming the same way. Less and less men take an interest these days. Plus the cars are so reliable now. Me on the other hand. I'm really pedantic. I only drive my car on weekends now, but I'm always cleaning it or checking something. It's a passion and my hobby.

In my 50 years of buying and selling cars, the best cars I have bought were from elderly men who had owned their cars from new and had them serviced regularly by the dealerships they bought them from. The best one I can remember was an RX4 with 32,000 miles on it. nobody had ever sat in the back seat and it still had the delivery clear plastic on the seat and rear doors. Everything in the car looked and smelled new. under the bonnet was immaculate and the 12A rotary went like a scalded cat. The only problem I ever had with it was the dinging sound I would hear occasionally. My son worked it out. It was the rev alarm which went off at 5000rpm. I have no idea why it is set there as they will happily rev to 10000rpm
