Road trip to W.A what to do to the car.

car well serviced and i`m a big fan of carrying some radiator stop leak just in case, and some water, a stone could hit the radiator,blow a walsh plug/hose, etc, cooling system is most likely to strand you imo.

Onya!...Sounds like a great run you’re going on.
A good service is going to minimise or eliminate any problems that may occur and gives you piece of mind.
I do a fair bit of travelling in my line of work, there’s a few of things that you may want to look at.
Those 19” tyres will have a bit of a load on them??....( and with 19’s it’s going be a bumpy ride.)
If the load rating on those tyres is any less than the 94 bare minimum, have a good think about it.
The better brands of tyres in a 17” have a sports tourer class with a 97W rating, and it will be a bit more comfortable & quieter ride.
As mentioned you want to pay attention to the cooling, hoses etc... (Seeing as you’re going to Clare you’re really going to appreciate that heater running well)
Do get the alternator checked out as I’ve had a couple go, and no surprises that it happened in areas where they elevate prices ‘somewhat’ and then add freight costs on top. If the battery is older than 3 years take a good look at that also.
(If you have a few spares like fuses & globes etc... add some new spare relays that suit the car.)
Roos, emus, etc...check your brakes replace & bleed the fluid, make sure there’s plenty of meat on the pads there will be times when you’re really going to need them. The general overall condition of your suspension is worth a look too.
If you do any night driving it wouldn’t be a bad idea to upgrade the headlight globes to something like Narva +100 or Philips Extreme Vision, they make a big difference.
I also give all my windows a good treatment of Rain-X (love the stuff!) it makes clearing sticky bugs off the windscreen a lot easier too.... and a new set of wiper blades helps!

Yeah get the alternator tested (or just enable diagnostic mode on your AU dash and make sure voltage is above 14v with the headlights, stereo, fan etc on, do a load test).

Spare headlight bulbs maybe? If both fronts die then you're gonna have a bad time.

other wise a well serviced car is fine and make sure you check your tyre presurse i do recomend bumping them up 5psi more than normal to combat heat build up

and its alot further than you think

next easter if i dont fly will be my 40th time across

Well said. Be aware of wildlife, especially emu's. They're unpredictable and just when you think they are running away they do a 180 and run directly infront of your vehicle!

Don't swerve for wildlife if you come across it unless it is absolutely safe to do so. Many people have had serious accidents swerving for wildlife, only to see the animal run away and you total your vehicle, or worse....

Personally I enjoy driving at night, but I use my Pajero, and it has enough lighting to turn night into day.

Other than that it should be an enjoyable trip.

i used to like night driving as a young buk, after doing a fair bit of trucking at night time, i have come to the conclusion it`s safer to drive in the day light hours and tell my friends contemplating a trip please don`t travel at night for your own safety, it`s not just animals and road conditions you have to be wary of.

Yep, but the $290 ones with an external antenna are just as good as an in-car unit.

This is all I do. But only 1 spare and a compressor and repair kit. Also 20-30 litres of fuel for me to make it between 98 stops. Can get 95 no problems

Next trip is Sunday head to Vic for AFF Drags, then to Darwin and then home.

Modern cars mate, I am lucky if I remember to check the oil.

Hi, Id just like to say thank you to all who have help with advice with my questions regarding the road trip to perth it was most appreciated , But what a week, unfortunalty (In a way, not that im complaining) the move to W.A is off as i have full time work in biloela qld, so we are moving there, i had been putting in applications both here and in W.A and it seemed that i would have a better chance of getting a job over there,....well on monday i was on seek.com.au looking for work( as the place i had been working at for the last 23 years was closing down) and i had put in a job application at biloela and within a short period of time i had an interview over the phone and not long after that i had the job so i now am in the process of packing up and moving there..So once again thank you for your advice/help....

Me and my girlfriend drove from melb to bunbury which is close to Mandurah. We bought a $500 corolla and just topped up the oil and set off. There is a **** load of petrol stations along the way, well between melb and wa. Just keep your petrol topped up. The largest distance we came across between 2 petrol station was 284 km so unless your car cannot cover that distance on one tank you should be fine. Also water, and lots of it coz it's hot as sh&t. Really good drive. Would highly recommend. And don't drive at night!!! Roos everywhere. Really scary in a hatchback. Had some verrrrry close calls so just don't do it. Trust me
