Default EcoLPI an EcoBoost or a Mondeo?

Ok, so Ford AU has made the LPG version of the I6 superior to the petrol - bar modest lost in boot space.

Could they surely wipe out the enemy with an EcoLPI Mondeo/Focus/EcoBoost?

Slightly more power n torq than petrol, fuel half the price, greener. Sounds good to me (other than slightly less bootspace).

All things being equal diesel simply cannot match petrol or LPG for power...so no thanks. Happy to be proven wrong.

Personally I prefer torque over power, drive a 2L NA Focus and drive the 2L TDCI Focus, apart from handling disadvantage I mentioned in the ecoboost thread, its chalk and cheese which one you would take for daily driving duties, the diesel craps all over the petrol engine.

torque is good, the only thing missing from a diesel is the extra rev range of the petrol/gas engine if you suddenly have the need to really get out of dodge in a hurry, that`s why the falcon six is tops.

But as stated by others, it matches it with torque. That's what you need for pulling power and overtaking, not KW. KW will win you the traffic light derby, but Nm will pull 5 fat blokes and a full boot up a steep hill without having to change gears.
As an example, our MY06 Peugeot 307 has a 2.0L turbo diesel engine. It only has 100KW, but has 320Nm on tap from about 1800rpm. That's nearly 6cyl torque figures, especially if you go over to the red camp. I can easily overtake in 6th from 90km/h without having to change gears. All from an engine that sips only 6L/100kms.
Having said all that, on a fuel cost per kilometre, the diesel and LPG are pretty much on par. This is based on my EL on duel fuel and the above mentioned Peugeot. So the EcoLPI probably comes out in front of diesel purely in a cents per litre comparison, due to the the advances in technology over the 13 year old LPG system I run.

seriously bro this is just pipe dreams
we are a small market with allready class leading and efficient engine options.Maybe if the sales where tripled you could look for more options but seriosly...why would you bother.
And anyway we all know if its a good idea FORD AUS WOULD ALLREADY HAVE IT.

I'd say turbo lag is a bigger worry. Those couple of seconds for the turbo to come on song can seem like an eternity sometimes.
Same engine as in the Focus, 2L PSA diesel, except ours have some overboost function, 340nm.

um, le mans 24 hrs. Audi - diesel - has done ok over petrol I believe...

I agree, my TDCI Focus is manual, my WS Fiesta is manual, my old mans Mazda 323 is manual, the old WF Festiva we have is manual too.

Wouldn't you at least offer it as a no cost option, if you want it, you wait for it to be built?

Agree. 6 speed manual on any of these 3 would be a superb car and more fuel efficient.
Funny how the 6 speed manual LV /LT Focus diesel beats the crap, out of the new LX Focus diesel powershift on fuel economy.

With the Falcon not offering it I can understand as its more R&D that needs to be spent on a low return item. Unfortunately for the Mondeo they must realise Australians do not like manual so don't want to have the extra complexity having it Australia.
