Default Insurance premiums through the roof

Anyone else noticing a massive rise in insurance premiums? On some of my cars more than 100% up over last year. I got the invoice this morning and haven't called my insurer yet but I'm being told its due to the QLD floods and Vic hailstorms.

Home insurance shot up nearly 100% in some cases within months of the floods and cyclone..... so it is to be expected they would gouge the eyes out of auto insurance as well and use the old "floods and cyclone" excuse...

Hmmm, not so sure about increases.
I have a renewal at the moment for one of the cars with Suncorp at $539 which is up from $515 last year and I just yesterday got it down to $250 with Youi.
Only difference is I pay first $675 with Youi against first $500 with Suncorp, also no free windscreen with Youi.

Yes Reaper good point, you must factor in everything, type of car, v8, 6, or 4, sports or standard, age and history of driver, location(high or low theft area) etc etc

I am also aware that next year, Youi, just like Budget, will up the premium and expect me to just go along with them again.

My car policy went up by $29.

Trying to get quotes now for a 2nd car, and it's more expenisive and less vale for payout. AAMI cheapest so far by 30%

Bike renewal came as well from QBE and it's dropped a little.

So three a mixed bag at the moment.

Yea, thinking about it further, it is obvious to me that Youi are targeting my (older) age group and good driving history and also the type of vehicle because they wanted nothing to do with the wife's daily driver, 1988 V8.

Reaper, that Suncorp quote is quite good when you consider they wanted $539 for my VZ Commodore Wagon with $500 excess.

Gotta start shopping around myself...it's getting rediculous...

I've asked them in the past about "why has my insurance gone up when I haven't made a claim?" and the excuse is always "other peoples claims"...floods, cyclones, younger drivers, etc.
When I say "Why not hammer the insurance of people making lots of claims and leave me alone then...why not reward people for not claiming?", they seem to think that's an odd idea...

What I am getting tired of in insurance is the small insurers being bought by the large companies. The small guys are usually the cheapest, friendliest and easiest to deal with. Then they get bought out by a big player and you have to start looking again. I got a letter the other day stating that QBE has bought out my insurer, I know for now they have to honour my contract, but when the renewal comes up I will be looking elsewhere.

i was surprised with suncorp aswell last year i paid 1200 with another company as budget would not insure my car as my wife was under 25 even when i told them she can not drive a manual(reason i brought it LOL). im in the older bracket aswell and have only made 1 claim in my life so was surprised with being quoted 1500 all the time. my original john goss special only cost me 1200 with nrma when i was on my p's back in the day

I've got insurance coming up next month I think, I'm paying $1779 with Just Car Insurance for my TDCI Focus, I wonder if it will go up as I did it online and apparently they offer you a cheap first year, then jack up the prices next time you renew.

I've got 1 not at fault accident in the last 3 years.

*Corrected*

I'm hoping our premiums wont go up "too much" or the missus will be telling me to sell the V8 again (for the 16th time this week).
