If your mobile requires connection to lines I think you've been stooged!!

The reference was probably towards the capability of the backend infrastructure of each phone company. Telstra may have a big footprint but they are far from the most dynamic in this area.

3 roams on Telstra's network, so coverage should be as good as Telstra's. I know people had issues with the older LG phones, but the new ones have most of the issues sorted. In saying that, I haven't had one issue with my Sony Ericsson Z1010.

Stick with a SE, Nokia or Motorola, get a capped plan, and you'll be laughing.

Im with 3 and havent found them too bad, a bit of a pain due to their customer service outsourcing aka India.. but the rates are cheap and ive found the coverage comparable to optus..

I've been with 3 for about 20 months now, in the first few months I had call drop-outs, but they were compensating for that in your bill. I've had the software in my phone upgraded twice, the first because of the phone dropping out, powering off (NEC616), the second time I made up an excuse so I could get the latest software upgrade on warranty. In the last year I've had no call drop-outs, and no phone problems. I've had signal where-ever I've gone, except for travelling to sLowood to pick up my son. :. The phone has been great since then... coming towards the end of a 2 yr contract, and I can only see one phone to upgrade to, but... I don't need it when my current one does so much (It has 5 alarm time settings!) The coverage is good in a metropolitan area, it rings when I don't want it to...

People with 3 desperate to leave before the end of your contract should the contact Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman http://www.tio.com.au/

I was able to negotiate my way out of my 3 contract without paying & a few of my friends have too. You do need to give valid reasons why you have lost faith in 3 tho you can't just say they suck & I want out.

Stick with Telstra! I have been with Telstra for about 5 years or something. Keep getting better deals from them. My phone always works. I get very prompt customer service. Any problems are debt with like they are the fault of Telstra, even when they are my own stupidity. They really are very good!

Do not under any circumstances go with 3.
I went through 5 phones, with them. Hardly ever had decent reception. Their customer service centres are even more useless.
I have more than 5 mates with them and not one of them is happy with them either, plus every single one of them has had a new phone, at some stage in their contract.
Go with Telstra or Optus, and stick with a Nokia, you cant go wrong with those combinations!

Cheers for that, I guess that means Telstra it is, because Optus doesn't have coverage in my area.

Thanks for the feedback everyone

Don't go anywhere near 3. Thats unless your antisocial and don't want a phone because the phone will be in repair all the time. And it is the networks fault that the phones are sh*t, there the ones that buy it from the manufacturers, as long as there is demand for the crap phone they won't be changing anything anytime soon. Plus they sponsored Big Brother which is a good reason on its own not to like 3.

I was a Nokia guy all throughout school, but was forever pulling them apart to replace cracked screens. Then people started coming to me with buggered software (ever had a 8250 which froze on a "Contact Service" screen". Since then the software has become encrypted and more complex, and I just don't touch them any more. My GFs Nokia drops out of calls when it gets a bit warm. It has been in service 4 times and the problem still exists.

I've had 2 Samsungs so far, an really second hand E700 with a broken display ribbon (guy was a builder, i replaced the part and fine since) and my current E730. Been 3 months and I cannot fault it.

Id just get a Samsung and plan bundle from Telstra Optus or Vodaphone, or buy a Samsung from Ebay and get a prepaid card.

I was talking to the Engineer at Telstra and the 3 network is W-CDMA. (Telstra bought into the 3 network early this year)

All I know is that the phones are awful and the coverage although it is getting better it still is nothing compared to main stream telstra or optus.
Many people i know have had 3 Phone Plans and ended up just paying out the contract because of all the problems so i never even considered the 3 network.

But please the advertising with string dolls with lame script used to really annoy me, especially around Big Brother.

So No i agree with the "Stay Away" comment
