Thieves on the Gold Coast have stolen a pair of valuable vintage Toranas after failing in their bid to steal a Hyundai

THIEVES on the Gold Coast, having failed in their attempts to steal a Hyundai Excel, were forced to drive away with a couple of consolation prizes a pair of valuable classic Holden Toranas.

Police are appealing for assistance to locate the collectible cars - one orange and one grey and black 1972 XU1 Toranas - the same model that Australian motor racing legend Peter Brock drove to his first Bathurst win at Mount Panorama in 1972.

Police believe that the offenders jimmied open a back door at the Pacific Pines residence, stealing electrical equipment, entertainment systems and jewellery before finding the vehicle keys.

They tried to steal the Hyundai Excel, before leaving it and making off with the two classic Toranas, estimated to be worth a total of $100,000.

Heard the owner interviewed on radio this afternoon. seems there were anti-theft bollards in place as well.
One wonders where the keys for those were kept?

The exact reason all my cars are locked secured and alarmed, and the keys are well hidden, ie when I leave home there is no way anyone will find the keys for any of my cars anywhere.

Just makes it a bit harder for the dirt bags......

Police have charged a number of people in relation to the theft of two classic vehicles and a quantity of property from a Pacific Pines residence on Tuesday night.



After receiving information from the public, police executed a search warrant on a Coomera residence around 9 last night and allegedly found the stolen property.



Seven people in total have been charged in relation to the incident.



Two men, aged 24 and 37, have been charged with one count each of burglary and receive tainted property and are due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.



A 22-year-old man has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a vehicle and one count of receive tainted property, he will also appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.



Three men, two aged 22 and the other aged 20, and a 19-year-old woman have also been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a vehicle and one count of receive tainted property. They will all appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on December 1.

Its great they were found

Dont need keys to start the LJ torries,as long as the ignition barrell will turn,itll start without a key (same as HQ,HJ,HX ect)

My ol torrie was like that we ended up busting that part of the key barrell
That way you needed a key to turn the barrell

good to hear they were found...torana's are way to easy to steal. Our LH doesnt even need a key..the barrel can turn and start the car without any keys lol

a good way to stop this sort of thing is to fit a kill switch.
